Thanks for the tip about the fork, Phyll... sounds good. I have been off track with regard to bite sizes... Maybe I will use a Shrimp fork!

I have the Realize band also - PA said the port attaches differently than the LapBand port, and that IS why it hurts for a longer time. It is normal, and (hopefully) will get better with time.

Hi, it has been a few weeks since I last posted and since then I have been banded,(Dec 18th). I had some problems with gas pains but they are gone now. I just started mushie foods and I am so glad to actually chew something even if it is mushie.

My first fill is scheduled for Jan 13th. I am getting hungry now and look forward to the fill. I am so proud of myself for making the decision to be banded. I look forward to 2009.

Everyone asked why didn't I wait until after the holidays. I tell them that that would be an additional 5 to 10 pounds to loose.

I had lost 6 lbs the first week at my post op visit. I have not weighed since for I know that the first month is for healing.

is there any research in regard to the rate of weight loss for those over 60. My surgeon told me to concentrate on good food choices and the exercise only contributes to 15% of weight lost after 50.

what sort of 'mushies' do people eat, interesting ideas please.

I don't know of any research to quote, but I do know as a person ages, it becomes more difficult to lose weight. Still the old rule applies, fewer calories and more exercise is the solution. I have been tracking both for 2 years now and find that exercising 40 minutes a day only makes me physically healthier and the exercise does not contribute too much to weight lose. It is the few calories that carry the most punch.

I have learned patience and have been concentrating on eating between 1200 and 1400 calories per day. I only lose about 1/4 to 1/2 lb per week but when I look back over the year it totalled 25 lbs.

If there is any adivice I can give you is "to follow your doctors directions. Eat healthy and exercise to keep healthy". Good luck in your journey.

Hi, Miranda!

I don't know about research, but I think it's a highly individual thing, too. Good food choices... very important... when you get to normal food... hard Protein first... 3-4 oz, then 1/2-1 cup of veggies, and very few carbs. Be careful of "slider" foods then.. things that "slide" down easily will allow you to eat more than you should.

For me personally, exercise seems to be important. I didn't get much exercise this past summer. When we got to southern CA for the winter and I started doing Water aerobics every day, it made a definite difference in my rate of weight loss.

Mushies... FF refried Beans is a good one.. you can add a little melted cheese if you like, or FF sour cream. I used a "Magic Bullet" blender a lot during the mushie stage... put Soup, chili, stuff like that in the bullet to smooth it out. Cream of wheat works for "mushie", and even scrambled eggs.< /span>

I don't know which threads are your favorites, but I'd recommend one of the mentors' threads for more advice and direction... "I'm Here to Help" that "Indiogirl" started is an excellent one.

I live in new zealand and we do not have refried Beans infact I am not sure what they are even to try and emulate them. I am keem to get interesting ideas for 'mushies' as I get very bored with eating the same thing all the time.

Well, any kind of beans can be blended to make them mushie. Even cook some from "scratch" and then you can spice them up any way you like. How long does your doctor have you on mushies?? Each stage can be boring, but, hang in there. It gets better! If I can think of any more ideas I'll let you know. But I think there might be a thread for mushies, too. Did you look in the recipes section?

Hi everyone,

I haven't posted for a while but have a question. Have any of you developed a cough after a fill? I seem to have a cough after I eat or drink since my last fill. It is not like PBing or anything, just annoying. I have a lot of restriction since my last fill and was wondering if anyone else had this situation.

I haven't posted anywhere over the holidays and feel the need to "get back in touch". I was banded 10/31/08 and have lost about 30# overall, but I think I gained a few over the holidays. I've only had one fill and believe I need another. I can eat waaay too much. And have made very poor holiday choices. So! New year, same old resolution.

I've had some notice of my wt. loss, which surprises me. I'm still and awfully big ball of yarn for a few feet to it to be noticable.

I'd love to figure out how to do one of those tickers. If anyone is willing to take me through it, step-by-step, my email is Lambgram@comcast.net.

I have a ticker out there - on the Tickerfactory.com website, but even though I follow the steps for some reason I get an "invalid file" response every time I try to post it on my signature block. If you have success, maybe you can let me know what I am doing wrong.

If I am remembering correctly, you have to cut/paste the one that says "BBC Code" in to your signature block. Once you get it... you never have to worry about it again because every time you go to the tickerfactory site and update, it automatically updates the ticker wherever you have posted it.

Finally! I thought I was the only one in the 60 range. I'm 66 and being banded on Jan. 14th. All my stats were excellent. My pre-op diet is going fine except for a major problem which could cause me to postpone my surgery. A month ago I had knee surgery and with the combination of anesthesia and codeine pain killers I have become constipated. Nothing seems to work. I've tried Milk of Magnesia, laxatives, Opti-fast almost exclusively, a raw carrot chewed into oblivion, a cup of WW cabbage Soup and GALLONS of Water. Water in and water out. Nothing seems to dislodge anything and I feel like I'm filling up my tank until it feels like it will explode! Lots of lower and side back pain. I have also had two colonics with limited success. This has NEVER happened to me before. The Knee doc never warned me about how anesthesia stays in your system for several months and how codeine can shut down EVERYTHING. HELP! In a few days I'll have to decide whether to move ahead or postpone. Thanks. Judy, Judy, Judy (Judyx3)

I have a generous dose in my first jug (20 oz bottle) of Crystal Lite every day and it seems to do the trick.

Hi to all,

I wanted to get back to this board. I'm doing pretty good, but I need to keep in touch so I can stay on track. It's so easy to fall back to old habits. I love seeing the needle on the scale drop.

Judy - I had knee surgery several years ago. Fortunately, I did not have your issue. You need to speak with your Dr. and decide what is best for you. Hopefully, the Constipation will pass very soon and you can proceed with the band. You will not regret the band. It has been wonderful. I had no problems during the holidays. I need more fill, but I should handle that this week.

Good luck to all in 2009. Keep up the information. It is a help to me and everyone.

      I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

      Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

      Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
