Slow Losers Unite!

Recommended Posts

I guess I qualify for this thread.

I got banned jan.22 2007, only lost 30 lbs. But....if I continue and lose 30 lbs this next year I will only be 10 lbs from my goal. Every day I weigh myself and write it down. This really seems to help.I will have my big butt at the gym monday morning....I promise.

WHAT DID YOUR DR. TELL YOU ABOUT LOSING SO SLOW???

Well done crazy cat. You lost 30 lbs and the expectation of loosing 30 more this year. You have set a realistic goal based on your lifestyle. Loosing slowly is not such a bad thing. We tend to get impatient because of all the hype surrounding the band. Remember the turtle won the race over the rabbit and I bet you have a lot less saggy skin. Doddie

I just had an unfill a week ago. My doctor wants to see me again in 30 days. It seems like its taking me along time to get my band adjusted. My doctor only said, " you won't lose weight if you are too tight." I will admit....I need to make better food choices. I have also been trying to get in a lot of Water and going to the gym every day. I have'nt lost any weight in over a month. I'll let you know what he says the next time I go in.

Thanks for asking,

Terry

Hi crazycat. I lost one pound last month. Exercised 3 days a week minimum. But and this is a big But, I succumbed to soft foods that are of course higher in calories. I track every day. But still one pound down in a month is a victory for me. For what my advice may be worth. Continue to work with your wonderful doctor and you will reach goal. He is leading you down the correct path. Don't get impatient you will win the battle. I wish I had such a doctor. My fill doctor (not my surgeon) isn't too good with the encouragement and advice bit. You will do find. Doddie

Hi everyone,

This sounds like the place for me. I was banded on 8/27/07 and I have lost 18 lbs. I haven't lost anything in 2 months. I have had 1 fill and I am going for another on 2/12. I can pretty much eat anything and continue to eat wrong. I am praying the fill helps. I need to get my head together some how. I started walking 3 miles a day when weather permits. Still the nasty scale stays the same. :) I am so embarrassed that I told people I had this done.:)

One fill since Aug??? No wonder you aren't losing! I was banded 11/27 and have had four fills and I still dont have good restriction.

It is difficult to lsoe without good restriction, as then we're just relying on willpower and if we were good with willpower, we wouldn't need the band.

Talk to your Dr about getting regular fills until you get good restriction.

I noticed that on the other thread that some get fills monthly. He is 6 weeks apart and then I had to wait another 3 for an appt. I will definitely talk to them. I have 4cc's in a 14 cc band. Thanks so much for the reply.

Make your next appt when you leave from the last visit, so you don;t have to wait extra weeks.

My Dr. has been willing to see me every two weeks and we assess how I am doing based on my level of hunger in between meals and then decide if I need a fill. I have gotten a fill at each visit so far.

Perhaps you could discuss this with your Dr. Tell the Dr. you want to work WITH your band, but the band works with restriction, not without it. Don't say everything is fine, tell them what you're feeling.

You have a big band and it might take several more fills, so I think it's very unfair they want you to wait six weeks in between fills.

I have a decent amount of willpower and I have relied on that until I get good restriction, but I don't know I could hold out as long as you have.

Maybe you could call the office each day and ask if they have any cancellations? Maybe they'll get tired of talking to you every day and just give you an earlier appt!

Hey, I'm back. I posted once and then kind of lost the thread. I've done pretty good this week, I can tell a big difference since my last fill. It's staying with me, unlike the first one. I can tell its working because a lot of things are getting stuck in my throat now. I have GOT to learn how to take smaller bites and eat slower! I can't tell about any difference in my weight yet, it keeps fluctuating. I also need a decent scale to weigh on. I also can't wait for the weather to warm up. That's been my excuse to myself as to why I haven't been working out. Spring's a coming, we'll see then ...

Hi, I've been the same weight for almost a month now. Argg. I know that I have lost inches though because my belt has gone down a notch, but it sure would be nice to see the scale go down! I get another fill on Monday next week, can't wait.

I need some support from you guys....and maybe need to vent a little to. Have you ever noticed when it seems like it rains it pours? Well it sucks for me right now. My home life is terrible, my marriage sucks, my kids are bouncing off the walls, I hate my job and have for a while now but can't find anything else comparable and now I have completely stalled out with my weight loss. I just had a fill 3 weeks ago and nothing...as a matter of fact I think I am up 1 or 2 pounds. I am a stress eater without a doubt and lately, it is all I can do to not shovel things into my mouth. I don't know what to do....I dont understand why I have virtually no restriction. I had awesome restriction in December, I thought I was finally at my sweet spot then just about over night it was gone. This sucks. He only gave me a small fill when I went a few weeks ago and I just knew as soon as I left that it wasn't enough. I was right. Now I feel like a failure at this.....please tell me I am not alone with feeling this way and someone tell me the obvious that things will get better. Right now I am just ready to give up

I can relate to a lot of the things you are going through. I'm in a marriage that is a joke. He's been sleeping on the couch for over a year now. I'm in bankruptcy and my car just died on me and I can't get a car financed and have no savings to fall back on.

I keep waiting for things to 'go my way' but so far, nothing!!! All I can say is, "IT CAN'T GET MUCH WORSE" so we only have better things to look out for!!!

All of our problems don't disappear just because we get banded. Eating healthier will help you get a grip on your emotions to help handle the problems in your life... eating bad will just be one more thing on top of the pile of problems.

You have lost weight, Celebrate that and be sure you don't go back to old habits.

The fill process seems to be the most frustrating part of the surgery for many of us. I've had four fills and still don't have good restriction.

You can lose all your weight... and you'll feel better and more confident and you can go out and find that better job!

Hang in there!

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
