:smile:Candy patience, please. The band is a tool that helps you control your appetite nothing more. It is not a magic panacea. You need time to heal before going for fills that will tighten the band. If you loose 1 -2 lbs per week after your THIRD fill then you will be on your way. Your weight was not put on overnight nor will it come off. You still have to work at the way you eat and exercise. Doddie

candy, the band can be very frustrating. I remember when I first got banded being so disappointed because I wasn't losing like other people.

It's really hard to wait in between fills. The main thing that keeps me losing even if I need a fill is not eating many carbs and exercising. BUT-

I can go on plateaus that last months and it's extremely frustrating. I have to remember that I would be heavier by now than I was the day

I had surgery. That is what keeps me motivated.

Hi I am knew at this, I had lapband on September 30th 2008 and I weighed 235 lbs. I was put on a liquid diet before my surgery and lost 20lbs. Since then I have lost 40lbs. For the last 5 months I have not been able to lose anything and I have had 4 fills. My band is flipped and I asked the doctor if that could that have anything to do with me not losing weight and he said no. I do exercise and I do not eat much at all and still cannot lose weight, I also have the larger band on me. Does anyone have any suggestions as to why I may not be losing anymore weight. Thanks

Just wanted to check in and have everyone wish me luck.....I am worried that my port may have flipped. I had a terrible pain right in the port area the other day and now it seems as if the port area is really hard and protruding a little. It doesn't hurt now....I would think if it flipped it would. I am going for a fill today...which I need desperately so we will see. Keep your fingers crossed for me! I will check back in tomorrow.

My port lies on its side and it is very difficult to get in a fill. Takes about 20 to 30 minutes. I am told it is a very easy surgical proceedure to turn the port around so people with flipped ports don't worry too much.

I find that my port portrudes also but I rub it like a soother. It makes me feel so comforted in tht I have the band doing its job. Sounds weird I know, but I do find comfort in feeling the port. Doddie

NJ I would rather have the band stuck on my ribs than rolls of fat :tt1::rolleyes2:. I am slowly loosing these layers of insulation and the more I loose the more I feel my band. Uplifting or what. Doddie

This is very true, Doddie! You know, we both weigh around the same! We could be a GREAT support for each other because we're both pretty much at the same point in our journey! I need all the support I can get, that's for sure!

You know, I think my biggest problem is that I DON'T eat, believe it or not! I never eat Breakfast and rarely eat lunch. For instance, I haven't even eaten yet today and it's 2:00! Then later I gourge myself! I know, bad! :rolleyes2:

I know what I SHOULD be doing....I just don't do it! I have to change that soon!

Hey Y'all,

Well, I went in for my fill today and even though I had not lost much weight since August, I did have a major NSV! My Dr. was very happy with my results. I lost over 19lbs of fat and gained 10 lbs of muscle. So, okay, I'm happier now since I know what is going on. :)

I got a fill of 3.1cc today. Can't wait to see what this does for me.

Well, I'm now trying to quit smoking on top of losing weight. It sucks! And I'm finding myself trying to replace the nicotine with delicious evil foods...lol! Ice cream and Cookies...

So I got up this morning and bought a pack of ciggarettes... :prrr:

But see, I only smoke like 3 or 4 a day. Is that horrible? And should I try to quit while trying to lose weight? My fiancee is so pissed at me. He says he would rather me quit smoking and gain a few pounds. :puke:

It's like this big circle that I'm going round and round in...and it never stops. I'm damned if I do and damned if I don't. I can't seem to make anyone happy....

Try a prescription med named Chantix. it works, ask your Dr. for a script. that is how i quit after the band. Even having heart surgery couldn't convince me to quit for good but Chantix has done the trick.:)

I have heard a lot of people have quit smoking really easily with Chantix.

It's expensive though. I think it's about $200 a month and they recommend that you stay on it for 3 months.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
