Slow Losers Unite!

veggies and fruits are deadly in that they change to starch and sugar which is quick energy, and Protein stokes the muscles slower but longer. Hard protein is the only way to remain full for the required 4 hours with supplements.

The other thing is loosing weight is personal. For the first time in my life, I do not equate eating with dieting. By following the nutrion plan set out by the clinic and trying to exercise consistantly I woke up one year later and found I had lost 60 lbs. On a month by month basis it was 4 lbs or less but when I totalled "wow" Happy person am I. So I will continue to plod along using the slogan "the turtle won the race". Doddie

Hi NJ in VA

I have a 10cc band as well with only 2cc fill. But I am only 17 weeks into this. Sounds like you maybe feeling hungry becasue of your food choices. Sounds like you are eating more carbs then protien. I was on a liquid diet for 3 full months and I didn't feel hungry ever becasue the sahkes had 35mg of protien in each shake! Protien is the key to keep your stomach from growling and feeling hungry. Trust me I know all to well that we rather eat the carbs I still have trouble with that for sure, but I do find if I eat like I should I feel much less hungry. The good thing is the band keeps me from eating a whole bag of Lays, I find I can only eat a handful and then there is no more room! Thank God for my band lol!

Good luck to you!!!

I respectfully disagree with that. There are a great many veggies that are low in carbs . We need Fiber in our diet. Being on protein only is not good for the kidneys or the liver.

Not all carbs are created equal. you can find info here.

The Glycemic Index

Carbs are rated low and high. The low ones are "better" than the high ones. The chart on the web site shows the effect of different carbs.

A variety of foods is important to get in the right Vitamins and minerals and (yes, fiber and protein) our bodies need. Trying to get them all from artifical vitamins isn't as good.

Thank You shortgal! I am going to go and look at the chart. I am pretty sure I will know which ones are good ones, from low carb dieting most of my life. It took me a long time to learn to eat fruit once in awhile. I was so convinced even fruit was bad because it's higher in carbs.

Okay, now I went to that page. How do you find the index for certain foods? I couldn't see where to click for that. Do you have to join?

Hi Shortgal,

Yes you are right some carbs are needed and there are good choices to be made. However I don't think pierogies or potato chips would fall into the "good" ones lol.

I drink low sodium V8, I like them and it counts as some of my liquid. I too believe we need fruits and veggies. Have strawberries, or blueberries they are both good choices. Veggies for sure, try not to have carrots corn and peas as often as you would have green Beans, broccoli cauliflower etc.

sorry did not mean to imply veggies be cut out entirely. My point was many people look as salads as the rapid way to loose weight. It is not as some salads are higher to caloric count than hard Protein. With the band as we cannot eat as much, 3 ozs of protein should be eaten first then go into the veggies, etc. Any room left the white stuff. By making protein your main choices you will stay full longer. supplements can be taken to make up any shortfall in Vitamins, Calcium etc.

I still take Vitamins and supplements and probably always will. I doubt if I get everything I need from my food.< /p>

NJ: STOP.....you are putting too much pressure on yourself with this deadline. Stress affects the band. You partner loves you as you are and will marry you as you are (if not your partner does not love you).

Go back to square one. Small plate, measure, weigh no more than 3 oz Protein and no more than a total of one cup of food. Drink your Water and exercise out that frustration. MAKE SURE YOU EAT PROTEIN EVERY FOUR HOURS. Go back to your clinic for assessment and find out if more fill will assist. Fills do not loose the weight but can help you with portions. Doddie

NJ,

What's the problem? You seem to be on target with your weight loss we were banded around the same time and my results appear to be around the same as yours. You have to learn that big is beautiful that you are beautiful. This is a life long process for us all and there is strength in numbers so remember that you are not alone that all your bandmates are here with you. Have you ever seen a bride that didn't look just beautiful with a glow? I know I haven't, you will be the highlight of the wedding. Continue to work on your weight loss daily, take baby steps, the weight will come off eventually. We didn't put this weight on overnight so we shouldn't expect to lose it overnight either. Be thankful for the weight you have lost it could be worse you could have gained those same pounds. I think that you have some self esteem issues that you need to work on. Learn to love yourself and the skin you are in. We are all here for you. If there is anything I can do to help you let me know.:wink2:

Hi Everyone. I think that I am actually the SLOWEST loser on the boards. I had my surgery 2 years ago and have only lost 40 pounds. I read some of these posts from people who get to goal in like 1 year and I want to shoot myself! I'm glad I'm not the only one out there though. I went to my doctor today and I only lost FIVE POUNDS IN ONE YEAR! He was like, "ok lady, we're filling you big time." So now, I'm up to 3.2 ccs (I definitely feel restricted but I was just able to eat my Protein Bar no problem and it hasn't even been 24 hours since my fill!). Anyway, I'm rambling, but I wanted to say hi and I also wanted to tell NJ that I am getting married on 5/24/08 and had a very reasonably goal for myself to get to 180 by my two year bandiversary and I have "failed" at that. BUT BUT BUT --

I haven't gained a single pound since my surgery! I got the surgery because I felt like I was gaining ALL THE TIME.

I and have able to keep off 40 pounds and hover around 200 with (honestly) minimal effort. There have been plenty of months where I didn't work out at all and ate lots of sweets and processed junk and still stayed around 200. Honestly, that's a wonderful thing if you think about it. 200 pounds is not my goal but it also isn't horrible for me (I'm 5'8 and a curvy Italian girl).

My point here is we gotta keep the faith!!! We have to be honest with ourselves about what we're really putting in our mouths (for me, wine si a big issue). And, take it from a Bandster Vet, THE BAND IS NOT MAGIC. Sure, you can probably hover mid-goal after you're first big push from the surgery, but your body LIKES to be heavy, so you have to re-motivate and amp it up to get off that plataeu.

Sooo! Long story short, with only 2 months to my wedding (and lots of dangerous food/booze events on the horizon like my bridal shower this weekend and my bachelerotte cruise next weekend -- eek!!), I bit the bullet and hired a PERSONAL TRAINER! Woo hoo!!!! I'm scared of him but I think he's going to woop my butt into shape so I can finally shed those last 20 pounds to get to my goal!!

WISH ME LUCK!

PS -- NJ - have you thought about getting a trainer to come to your house even just for a month or so to get you in gear? I found mine on craigslist and it wasn't that expensive honestly. I used to live in NJ and I KNOW that there are probably hundreds of trainers who live around you. Just go to craigslist and take a look. Might really motivate you for your wedding too!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
