Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Recommended Posts

Katy - I'm so glad you are getting some reaction from your doctor. A little surprised they are waiting till early Feb for the barium swallow. Couldn't they get you in any sooner? I hope the removal of more Fluid (altho wondering WHERE that came from?) will help your situation between now and Feb 5th. and - it's never too late to learn new tricks, girlfriend! I am finding my psychologist to be a great advantage for me. He works with bariatric patients all the time and is such an encouraging person with great practical ideas. I have no where near the stress levels you have in your life right now, but can certainly identify with what you are going through. I think it helps that one of my best friends is also a psychotherapist. We met through our quilting (I do all her machine quilting on her art quilts) and have become such good friends. We often go to quilting events together out of town - and I find those long drives are a great time to hash out some of the issues of life! I was surprised recently to hear her say she gets as much out of our talks as I do! I always thought she was helping me, but she shares her stresses, too, and apparently that helps her deal with her own issues. She is not my "formal" psych person, as we have a friendship relationship, but that friendship is invaluable to me. We are spending the day together this Friday to make the quilt shop and yarn shop rounds in Lawrence, KS (an hour or so away), and I've been looking forward to it all week!

and to all - I received notice of a class reunion coming up next summer. My class was the second to graduate from our new high school back in the dark ages, our classes were pretty small at that time in our newly formed school. For years we have joined with the class ahead of us and the class behind us to Celebrate our reunion together. Come the first weekend in August - 2009 - we will be getting together again. I am so excited to look forward to that reunion with a lot less weight accompanying me! It is nice to look ahead with that positive picture in my mind instead of dreading (or avoiding) that occasion.

I hope everyone is having a great day!

Hi joannmarie,

The radiology place couldn't fit me in any earlier. Apparently it needs a specially trained person to do the Barium Swallow.

I have had it before and I know it is awful but as long as it shows up whatever is going wrong, I'll do it.

I read on the referal letter that I still have "minimum fluid in the band". I don't understand why he told me before that it was empty and yet took more out this week and now I read that there is still a little in there. Would it be a sort of psychological test of sorts, maybe to see if I'm tricking??? Believe me, I am NOT tricking!! I am still blocking and still being sick. The burping is horrendous. My poor little Grandaughter says "Oh Pooh Grandma, that stinks". How embarrassing.

Your psychologist friend sounds like a gem.

I did try psych sessions many years ago during turbulent/violent times with my second ex husband and went through the childhood traumas and family dynamics etc, etc, etc but I really don't want to go down that road again.

I do know that I am in need of support to get through these rough times I'm going through at the moment though. Maybe I could cope better if I felt more healthy. That is what this lapband was supposed to do, I was counting on it.

You, on the other hand are doing so well. It really does pay to absorb all the information beforehand as you did. All the knowledge has really paid off for you. Well done.

Best wishes.

Hi Everyone, I haven't posted on this thread for quite awhile but just wanted you guys to know I'm still here and plugging along. I made it through the holidays without gaining any weight which is a good thing, but then the first week of January went to Las Vegas for a few days and came back with a 3 lb gain, since that time I have managed to get those 3 lb's off but now I'm struggling trying to get under the 190 mark and keep juggling 3 different lbs, up one week down the next. This week I decided it was time to get back on the treadmill and time to start journaling my food again. So far so good. I hope to see a drop in the scale come Friday, I'm trying not to beat myself up over this but the last few days I'm having a hard time with it.

In other news my husband found out yesterday that insurance has approved him for lapband surgery and we're in hopes that in 6 weeks or so he'll have surgery, he see's the surgeon on February 9 so should get a date then. I'm looking forward to his surgery because I think that will help jumpstart me again and also help me keep on track afterwards. I can't complain really, I lost 93 lbs for 2008, 73 of it since surgery in March, but I'd really like to get the last 40-50 lbs off and I'm SOOOO CLOSE to 100 lbs I keep thinking maybe I'm trying to sabotage my self, grrrr!!!!

Hi Thintobme,

What great news. You'll both be wonderful supports for each other. I'm very pleased for you both.

Best wishes.

Ruth I agree call the dr. and take your pills every day as prescribed, don't skip days. When I used to take diuretics one of the ones I had was super cheap called hydrochlorithiazide, if your's is expensive ask if you can try that one.

Lizalee, glad you are feeling energized again. Good job on the Water aerobics. I just started a new workout program too and am sore today. They told me 48 hours later was when it would hit the worse and it did! I was fin yesterday.

Katy, hope the unfill will do the trick! Good luck with the swallow test.

Hi Long2bthin,

Nope, the unfil hasn't done the trick unfortunately, still hurting, being sick and ruddywell burping all day and night.

I'd like the Barium Swallow over and done with right now but I can't even get a cancellation for an earlier appt because they insist on fasting completely for at least 10 hours and they usually are not given much notice.

Best wishes.

OK, so here's a cool NSV. I walked into a meeting yesterday at work and I was greeted by someone with, "Well hello, slim". I stopped and looked around and my co-worker was laughing and she said, I'm talking to you. I want to go with you when you buy your bikini this summer slim. OMG, what a high that put me on. I just had to share. Thanks for all of your support and love to me on this site. Now, lets all go and seize the day!

Well I am on my way. I have had all my pre op counseling, blood etc. Have lost 13 pounds since 22 Dec 2008 when I last met with my doctor. Met again yesterday and we are waiting now for the insurance to give ok. I am excited and can not seem to think of much else. Have stopped drinking diet coke, no problem there even though I drank them all day long before I decided to do this band thing. Yup, I am so excited and you all have done such a great job of informing me of what was going to happen. I am 56, weighed 282, now 269 and can't wait to join you on the band wagon!

Livin....great NSV! That had to make you feel WONDERFUL!

Katie...wish I could take your pain away...both physical and the stress. Hang in there. Maybe this 10 day cleanse will help readjust the tummy? Wouldn't that be nice. Also, maybe a total unfill with liquids? Not a doc but maybe your tummy needs a rest and to heal. Anyway, will be thinking of you and your test date cannot come fast enough. I worry about your situation.

Beautiful day again. Cold evenings and mornings but we have some relief coming for the weekend. We are out and about anyway and much better weather than MN.

Been really FULL since flying a week ago. I don't get stuck and don't even know what it feels like to PB but having a hard time getting my normal nutrition. This too shall pass. Will talk tomorrow. Life is good!

Flying always makes me tight. I don't get it. One time the first night I got to my dad's house, I had this dream that I unfilled myself because I felt so tight.

Katy, I hope you get some answers soon.

My surgeon will not band anyone over the age of 70. I know he has made exceptions, after doing a lot of testing on the person.

blklab70: Welcome to the board. We are all here to help you because we have all walked in your shoes. I remember my surgery day as well as I remember the births of my children. It was kind of a birth for me and the start of a new journey. God's blessings for a safe journey.

Katydid:

Has your doctor looked at your Gall Bladder? I really hope you get some relief as soon as possible

Hi livn4jesus,

My gall bladder was removed 4 years ago. I am desperate for relief, so the sooner this Barium Swallow test is done the better. It just HAS to show what the problem is. It has too.

Best wishes.

Hi Apples2,

Thank you for your kind thoughts. Unfortunately I am at the "Why Me" stage today as I'm "spitting the dummy" about having to be the odd one out with all the success around me. Don't get me wrong, I'm very happy about everyone doing so well with their lapbands. I just wish I was one of them. No matter what I eat or drink the pain starts and does not relent until it comes up again. Hard to keep any goodness out of anything. Very tired, weak and bad tempered.

Best wishes.

Hi,

I ended up in emergency and was tested negative for a blood clot. While examining me the doctor noticed that every so often was trying to catch my breath.

The resident surgeon my surgeon's team was on duty and mentioned this happened to other patients and it is diaphragm related and will go away within the next week.

For the belching problem I was prescribed Prevacid Solubetab. Otherwise I am doing fine and want to thank IndioGirl for Crystal Lite tip to go with my protien drink. The morning sunrise is great tasting.

I wish everyone well and I am a prayer warrior thus praying for the members of this group.

May Grace and Peace Be Unto You and I am living for Jesus too!

Toi

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
