Hi AThinner Denise,

I obviously missed your earlier posts when I was in hospital, regarding your esophagus problems. This rings bells for me about before I went into hospital with the hernia problem. Would you mind filling me in re - your symptoms etc and what led to the esophagram please? My band is still empty since the operation but I see the surgeon tomorrow. Hopefully he will take the drain out. Don't know if he will also do a fill but I'd like a lot of questions answered not just swept under the table.

Best wishes.:)

I really had no symptoms what so ever in the daytime. I ate small meals, never pbed or threw up, never had food stuck and I thought everything was fine. In the middle of the night, food or Water or both would come up in my sleep and wake me from a sound sleep. I would run to the bathroom and spit it out. Sometimes in my sleep I would wake up coughing and gagging.

I went into the dr. and he said I needed the esophagram. When I had that, they gave me the barium, and it just sat in my esphagus for over 15 min. and never went into my stomach. It just sat above the band. I could see it plain as day. The xray tech called my dr. and dr said to take out

one cc. I have been fine ever since. Dr. said I can't have any of my fill back for at least a couple of months. He said I could have damaged my esophagus. I had 2.75 in a 4 cc band and I never felt too tight, other than this night time problem. It's pretty scary to me.

I know.....that fine line. I got a fill last thursday and I pb'd last night. It was horrible. It was just a bite of a potato. I just can't seem to burp. Have you ever tried taking Gas-x before you eat? Do you think that would help me or do you think I might be too filled?:)

I would say if this keeps up, get a slight unfill. Like Janet said, only you know if you are eating slowly and chewing very well. Potatoes can be band unfriendly.

All I can say to everyone is pbing and feeling stuck is not normal. Some people think it is, and this is the way to lose the weight, but it's not. It's a way to lose your band or damage your esophagus. Chewing very well, taking tiny bites, and waiting in between bites is extremely important. If you are doing all those things, and still having problems, having some fill even a tiny bit, makes all the difference in the world. It is very important not to be too tight.

Thanks for the advice. I will really monitor my eating habits this weekend and if I pb again I will call the doctor. I agree, it is not normal. Oh, I pb'd last night again. I do think I was eating too fast.

I hear ya, sister. This is a "safe zone" for ranting. I am stressed, and when I am stressed, I shove food in my pie hole. I am caring for my mother with conjestive heart failure in the mornings and my three month old grandbaby in the afternoon. I am stressed! So, I eat too fast and BAM! pb. I am on mushies and liquids today because I do want to eat a little turkey tomorrow. I am learning the hard way how to eat right......BUT I WILL LEARN!

Charlene - Stress is a big one for me. Almost anything can get stuck when I eat fast and don't chew well. And, I also can't seem to eat anything solid in the morning so I usually have a Protein Shake.< /p>

I hope everyone has a happy, less than stressful Thanksgiving!

A big cyber hug to you too Janet. I know you must miss your brother. Holidays can be really rough on people, and losing a loved one makes it that much harder.

Janet, Hugs from me too!

I didn't pb today. I just spent 7hrs in the emergency with my mother. She had chest pains and they finally got her a room. So, I just ate a Protein Bar. Then this evening I ate a bowl of navy Beans. Since being banded I am hooked on beans. They go down good and they are a healthy food.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO ALL!

Thanks Denise & Charlene - Yes he is missed and always will be - but he is in a better place right now - he's going to be having turkey with our mom - my dad - my other bro - his stepmom- grandma's etc..

But you know what even with the lost of my brother

I do have so much to be thankful for.. My Son & his family are doing 1 million times better this yr than last yr - I have my health (those biospies came back negative in Aug)- I have a job - I have reconnected with my Bro Jimmy's (died in 99) boys. My GS is ok after his accident in August

I have good freinds who love and care about me.

And do you know what really blows me away - is all of you that I have met here on LBT.. For all intense purposes - total stranger - You all have shown me so much support and love - how can I not be blessed - how can I not be thankful..

Yes, I have had a terrible loss this year. But it could be worse.. So I try an not look at what has gone wrong but what is still good and positive in my life..

Yes I have had a terrible loss this year and have had some drama -but I still have a lot to be thankful for... My DS & Family are doing 100 million time better this yr than last (even with all the drama they went thru this year) My GS is bless to not have gotten hurt worse than he did in his accident.

I have my health, a job, a roof over my head - it could be worse.

I always try (well 99% of the time) to look at the good things in my life and not dwell on the negatives

But you know what really blows me away and what I am very thankful for - Is all of you !!! I am blessed to have such great new freinds who have shown me so much love and support this year..

Love & Hugs - Janet

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
