Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Recommended Posts

Well, I am at home on Saturday night while hubby is deer hunting. Not many deer in the area where they hunt - there was a lot of spring and early summer flooding there (friend who farms there replanted 3 times), and we're wondering if the deer moved to other areas during the flooding and did not return.

Our little sheltie Abbie had emergency surgery on her bladder Thursday. She came home yesterday and is not doing great just yet. She is not eating, not drinking very much, and the usual functions have not returned. I called the vet this afternoon - he said to give it until tomorrow morning - if no results I'll have to take her back to the animal hospital where they can treat her with catheterization, etc. She is 10 and has been a ball of energy - it hurts to see her feeling so bad. On vet's advice I made chicken and rice for her - real people food! - she would not even eat that...

Sorry to be off-topic. I hope everyone is doing well this weekend.

JoAnn, sorry to hear about your dog. It's so hard when our fur babies get ill, etc. Hope she's better soon.

I see you have less than 2 weeks to go. I know some folks have to do a 2 week pre op diet. Do you? You are going to do so good with the band with all your knowledge before hand.

Hi Lori,

Thank you for the concern. We have 2 shelties - Abbie, who is 10 and Jack, who is just 2. He is having a hard time understanding why she is not playing with him. At least she is getting some rest now - she had been pacing all afternoon.

I start my pre-op this week. Wednesday I will be at the hospital getting my lab work done, and then to surgeon's office to visit with her. Technically my pre-op diet is supposed to start on Thursday but since that is Thanksgiving I am going to see if I can start on Friday. If she plays hardball with me - I will capitulate immediately and enjoy turkey broth and Jello for Thanksgiving! My son and his family are preparing Thanksgiving dinner at their house, so at least I only have to cook a little (I always bring the cornbread dressing and the sweet potatoes). I am so glad not to have leftovers to deal with - hoping DH will not miss them too much. Just getting started on this I really don't want leftovers in the house. Like Janet I simply don't allow dangerous foods in the house.

I'm having a lot of time to think this weekend. Not sure that's a good idea right now! I feel like I have already thought this through a million times, now it begins to feel more like worry and I don't need that.

When do you leave for South Dakota? I hope you have a great trip and enjoy your relatives.

We leave on Tues. for our trip. We started to get a few things together today, but mostly worked on putting up Christmas decorations. We won't be home til late Sunday night and I usually put it all up the day after Thanksgiving and since Thanksgiving is later this year we started today. We will do our tree the weekend after we get home. I have so much Christmas stuff and this house has so little places to put it. I had so many nooks and crannies in my previous couple of homes. But I hate to get rid of stuff especially stuff I've had for years and years so it's tough to decide what gets placed this year.

We had 2 rotties and lost one of them each of the past two Christmases. It was really tough. We expected the one more or less but not the 2nd one as she was much younger. Now we have 2 puppies almost well one is 2 and the other will be 1 next month. they are both black lab mixes and DH is going to see how well they hunt next week, they are going with us, should be a fun car ride! :)

Katydid--

Continue being the strong woman that you are and declare what you need! You must rest and heal. I am sad that you are not being supported, but very few of us actually get/got the nuturing we needed and deserved. So WE become our own mothers and love and take care of ourselves. The LapBand surgery is one example of that.

Meanwhile, consider us your sisters and turn to us for a hug and a smile.

Judy

Hi Judy,

Thank you so much for your kind words of encouragement. It made me catch my breath when I read your post.

I'm reading a lot of Self Help books while I'm resting.

Best wishes. :)

Sorry to hear about abbie. My dog's name is Abby too. She is a silky terrier. She is 12. She has been acting like she doesn't feel well either.

Sorry to hear about the lay offs. I work for an attorney that does car accidents. I think my job is safe because people still have car wrecks.

I can't seem to stop eating junk.I do well for a couple days then get temped by someone and lose my willpower.

Pinki, right now you are in my neck of the woods. I am in Oregon.

Katy - we are all thinking about you and wishing you well. I am so sorry you are going through all this physical and emotional pain. I wonder if your parents realize how hard their lives would be if you were not there? Your mom probably could not visit you because she could not face that possible outcome. Take care of yourself - get as much rest and good nutrition as you possibly can - and get well. You are in my prayers.

Hi JoannMarie,

Thank you for your kind thoughts and prayers. I mentioned to Mum what other banders had said about the bug being a killer and that the hospital was trying not to let it get into my bloodstream and turn my body septic. (I didn't realise it could kill a person though, they didn't tell me that part.) Mum just said "Yes, I know." Since then she has been less demanding on me and through the daily visits from the Home Care Nurses she know that I must rest. That is sooo much weight off my shoulders.

Two weeks to go eh? You won't believe how the time will fly now. Good on you.

Best wishes. :)

Good morning all you wonderful people!

I too have not checked the boards for the past few days.....work has been busy!.....but wow! so many things happening here.....

First - to all who responded to my post about having doubts about the decision for LapBand.....Thank you all for your wonderful encouragement and wise advice! I am "back on the wagon" and eating healthy....doing the high Protein and low carb diet to get the 5% weight off before I see the doctor again (Dec 9).....Making the solid commitment to myself (and you all) to stay positive and to continue to eat healthy. I hope to be able to get on to the doc's January schedule.....or at the latest February. Also made an appointment to see the nutritionist on Dec 2.

Gypsy - thank you for sharing your story. Thank God that you and hubby survived that boating accident. I am sure it really has given you a whole new persepective on and appreciation for life. Every day is a gift. Every day we wake up is a new opportunity to live the life we were meant to live. Thanks for you most inspiring post.

Orea - so sorry to hear about hubby's layoff. I hope he lines something else up soon! I'm not sure if it's the older people or the younger people who should worry about their jobs. Low man on the totem pole might be the one to go first......BUT......the higher up person (older one) also makes more money and can be replaced with two younger ones.....Scary times. My husband and I are lucky in that we have secure jobs....and I feel so sad for those who are not so fortunate.

Katy - prayers to you that your recovery goes well. Sorry to say, but I think your Mum is a bit selfish......you need to take care of YOU, not her.

Have a great day all.......:)

Hi April410,

Thanks for your kind prayers. Things have been a bit easier lately. My Dad has onset dementia and gets very frustrated and irritable and wants to go to his house, which he can't anymore. Mum gets cranky with him and them I guess I cop it next because I'm not able to rein him in the way I used to be able to. Hopefully when I'm better things will change and get easier.

Best wishes. :)

JoannMarie - There is no off topic here - it's not always about our bands - this place if for support for everything in our lives - Hugs about your fur babies - I know how much they become our children - I have a little poddle Angel and a Pom - Bear - and now a kitten Little Sheba... They all sleep with me... My babies.... Hugs and hope she is better today..

Yes - advoidance at all cost :) - Heck you wouldn't keep a bottle of booze on the counter with an alcohlic in the house - so why would you keep a choc cake on the counter for a food addict :tt2:

Heck I think they will let you slide one day.. My pre-op was only a week (I was lucky) but the Soup they gave me was awful - so I called and asked if I could have salmon and salad for dinner and they said yes - Heck my liver wasn't going to shrink that much in a week anyway - I think I read somewhere that it really takes like a month for it to shrink but not 100% sure on that one - just that in one week it's not really going to shrink

12/4 will be here in a wink of an eye...

Denise - Food cop on patrol... :cool2::lol: - You work for attoney I work for Ins Agency - You guys love insurance - we hate attornies :w00t::lol:

Pinkie - Ok you are right next door - I work in BD well really Palm Desert - but just west of Washington..

Glad to hear that your Mum is letting up on you a bit - Hope you are feeling better day by day..

---------------------------------------------------------

I visited with Phyl last night - Had a great time - Posting pic of when we 1st met last Nov and a pic of this Nov - She is only 2.8 away from losing 100 lbs (but gotta say that the pic from this year really doen't do her justice - I think it's all the black - it doesn't show off how much she has lost in this last year as it does in real life..)- I made her a t-shirt with her pic surrounded by 10 gold stars for her to wear when she hits that mark real soon..

Janet & Phyl, you gals are looking BEE_U_T_FULL!! I'm jealous of your meeting! But heck we may have Vegas one day!

I'm out of the 220's today!!! scale said 219.9 but it wasn't 220!!! Never to go back, now I can say less than 20 left of the 200's!! WOO HOO!!! though I hit 100 lbs lost in 14 more.

Just got home from costco and getting food and pies for our S. Dakota Thanksgiving trip. EGADS I spent a lot! And wow do they ever have more samples on a Sunday! I maybe back in the 220s tomorrow!! OOPS! But I digress, my point in mentioning that was I was going to get more of the panko breaded tilapia (I think it was this board we discussed this), THEY DON'T HAVE IT ANYMORE! This is my big frustration with Costco, I find something I like and go back for more and most of the time it is 'deleted from our system'. GRRR They told me to fill out a comment card to get it brought back, so if you liked that please join me!!

Hi Everyone---I have been reading everyone's postings in this thread and you all sound like such nice people. I was banded on August 27th, 2008. I am so happy that I made the decision to have the LB. I have lost almost 40 pounds and feel so much better. I am 54yrs old (until January 14) and have 8 children. Ours is a blended family (3 his and 3 mine and 2 together). Thankfully, my DH adopted my girls and we have been able to raise them all under 1 roof. We celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary last June. Six of our children are grown and raising their own families. Our 2 youngest are 19 and 21 yrs. Our 19 yr. old daughter is getting ready to go back to college in January. Our 21 yr. old son is trying to figure out what he wants to do with his life. He has not gone to college, and that is ok with us, but he needs to find a steady job. He is not living with us. My father is in a nursing home at this time. He is diabetic and has kidney failure. He can't walk because of poor circulation and the kidney problems. He refuses to take dialysis,so the DR said he would die without it. We do hope to bring home in a few weeks. We will get home health care and Hospice for him. This will help my MOM. We visit DAD every day and treasure each moment we have with him.

We also are the proud parents of one Lab, 1 Am. Bulldog, 1 spoiled Dachshund, 1 part chihuahua, and 1 full blooded chihuahua. Bear in mind that all the dogs originally were our children's. We also have a deaf white Cat. I love our animals a lot, but sometimes it does get a little overwhelming:ohmy:.

I am not too computer saavy, so you may not ever see the cute tickers that everyone else has along with their messages. I'll catch on one day.

I live in a small town in Texas. My husband and I retired from our jobs this year. He is a special ed. teacher and I worked for 25 yrs. as a banker. We love to take our 5th wheel and go camping. We have joined a group of Christian

campers and try to go camping once every mo.

Well, I know that I have rattled on way too long. I just wanted you to know about my life and I really look forward to hearing from y'all. Thank You----

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
