Quantity/meal 3 months post-op

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I am at 3 months post-op in my RYGB, overall feeling great. But have challenges with portions, I tend to eat to the point of almost feeling too full. Can you please share with me in .oz or grams an average meal quantity at this stage in your journey? I know everyone is different. Thank you!

My nutritionist recommendations are: 3-5 oz meals no more than 5 times a day up to 6 months post-op.

5-7 oz meals from 6mths -2yrs. 1 cup for maintenance. YMMV

I try to listen to my body and stop eating before reaching full. Otherwise, I get nauseous, and the barf bag comes out. 🤢

Ty to stop before you get that full feeling. It takes a good 20+ minutes for the message to get through so we’ve often eaten more than we need by the time we feel full. It’s why we’re told to eat slowly & to take small bites. Try to stop when you’ve had enough. I still ask myself do I need the next bite or do I just want it. I found it helps a lot - mindful eating.

I wasn’t given weight portion only told 1/4 - 1/3 cup from purée to about a cup at 6 months so at 3 months it was probably about 1/3 - 1/2 cup. But check with your dietician for their recommendations for you & your needs. It’s okay if you can’t eat the portion they recommend straight away or at every meal but of course don’t eat more than they recommend.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
