Is it normal?

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I had my RNY surgery on the 27th. I am in some pain which I know is normal

I was wondering ,is it normal to have pain when food is going through your digestive system? I have the gas or food moving every time I eat I use the bathroom.

I also have not stopped having dark diarrhea. I'm scared to eat pureed food as of yet since my plan says I can start the day I get home from the hospital.

Has anyone experience this? I'm so nervous about having a bowl obstruction or bleeding that can become serious. My surgeon says to monitor it but I'm scared. I don't have the best insurance if I need ER visits.

Thank you for reading.

Wiser minds than me have mentioned that the dark diarrhea is from old blood that is still getting purged from your system. I think that if you don't feel comfortable having pureed foods, you don't have to eat them. I consumed broth fortified with scoops of collagen for the first two weeks after surgery.

And definitely contact your bariatric provider if the color changes or pain gets any worse. I'm sure some of the forum legends will chime in to help support you, too.

I would contact a doctor immediately. Dark stools are not considered normal, nor is pain like that. Good luck. Hope everything is ok. Better to have it checked to make sure.

Thank you both! I will follow up with doctor. They are closed on weekends but I will try the answering service. I hope they don't get irritated by me.

I agree with BeanitoDiego on the dark stool - it's probably just blood from the surgery. Strange color stool isn't that unusual the first month or so after surgery. Not sure about the pain part. Just run it by your clinic and see what they say.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
