Puree Stage Challenge - Anyone Else?

Recommended Posts

Hi Support Team-

I moved to the pureed stage last Thursday after having done fine with liquids (meeting Protein and Water goals). In addition to having no hunger or appetite (which I understand is normal), I really don't like the texture of pureed foods. So, I have been eating only one pureed "meal" a day - scrambled egg, tuna salad and tonight ricotta bake. The rest of my protein I am getting from fluids like before. How did you all manage eating enough food to get most of your protein in during this phase AND meeting fluid goals. Anybody semi skip the pureed phase - eating only one or two "meals" per day and the rest liquid? Thank you in advance!

The texture of purées is a real issue for many. And then throw in some taste aversions it can be a nightmare. Texture want an issue for me but taste oh yes. You can purée most things just use enough stock, gravy, milk, etc. to keep the purée still runny enough.. I used to purée thick meat & vegetable Soups. A friend pureed steamed chicken with gravy. I was allowed to eat instant rolled oats, runny scrambled eggs & yoghurt. I also mashed boiled eggs with mayo. I had baby food a couple of times for some variety in flavour.

Yes I think this is a really tricky stage for some people. Personally I loved it (I still remember the taste of a proper pureed roast dinner after weeks of shakes). It only lasts a couple of weeks so I say get through it any way you can. If you can meet your Fluid and Protein goals then maybe you'll just get to the soft foods stage that way. I wish you the best of luck.

I could not do the puree stage. pureed meat just was not for me. I had soft cheese, squashed cottage cheese, Soups with lentils in for extra Protein [squashed with a fork]] Potatoes mashed with grated cheese with gravy, protein yogurts. As you can see I like dairy produce. Milk blended with Peanut Butter and banana

All the above, and you can add unflavored Protein Powder to your meals for extra Protein. I enjoyed foods that were already a pureed texture. You may still want to supplement your protein until you're on regular foods and eating a bit more.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
