Medical cannabis after surgery.

Recommended Posts

Hello, It’s been a week since i went through a gastric sleeve surgery and I use cannabis oils to help with other health issues, however, sometimes friends come over and i would end up vaping a little bit and now idk if its safe to vape after the surgery.

Do you get the munchies after you vape? That would be one risk. Overall, I would avoid it. Your body has undergone significant trauma. Give it time to heal.

If you can, hold off a bit- vaping and smoking are extremely dangerous to your respiratory/circulatory system, and could cause healing delays so soon out of surgery. All of my paperwork said no to both before and well after surgery.

I opted for Gastric Bypass surgery, knowing it's not recommended to "consume tobacco" ever again. But cannabis is not tobacco, And vaping is not smoking.

3 months post-op I vape 0mg nicotine and I also have a CBD/THC vape pen for when I experience any pain or nausea. It's medicinal. No one can convince me otherwise.

This podcast addresses OP questions.

I enjoy smoking weed, I waited twoish weeks before I took a hit. It was small one tho because I was worried about coughing. All is well on my end.

As a mom to a son who was hospitalized due to vaping lung injury- i will respectfully disagree that vaping is safer— but i do agree that THC is medicinal, but would still say consider letting your body heal a bit. My earlier comment was not said in judgement, just consideration of healing process. Edibles may be the route to go earlier on. I’d also encourage discussion with doctors- they can advise you best based on your situation.

I'm really sorry to hear that. I'm curious to know if he was part of the 2019 EVALI outbreak? The CDC has since confirmed that the majority of lung injuries and deaths were caused by users vaping illicit THC cartridges that were mixed with Vitamin E oil.

I'm assuming there are still black-market cartridges being sold somewhere out there. I just had this conversation with a family member yesterday. Not to buy from an unknown source. Mine was purchased at a licensed dispensary in Denver.

Thanks for the kindness- no he was not part of that cycle- and his issues came from ordinary vaping of tobacco, just in the past year.

CBD can be a viable option for some people, but I understand the confusion with so many products on the market. When choosing a CBD product, look for reputable brands that provide third-party testing results and start with a lower dose to see how your body responds. As for transitioning from pain meds to CBD, it can vary from person to person. It's essential to work closely with a healthcare provider to monitor your progress and adjust accordingly. Additionally, considering medical cannabis uk might offer a safer alternative worth exploring.

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
