How long did it take for your incision area not to hurt?

Recommended Posts

Hello. I had my sleeve surgery on 3/27. My incisions have healed well, but I am still experiencing really bad burning and pulling pain when bending, reaching, etc. I can't lay on my right side and laying on my left side is sometimes uncomfortable. Bending over is a no go. It's incredibly painful. So, anyone have a similar experience? I'm kind of worried something is messed up with my internal sutures. My doctor said they take 2 to 3 weeks to dissolve and here it is week 4. :(

Hey I had my surgery 03/28. It took mines about a week or so But I still do get random pains specially where my biggest incision is. I had to allow my body to rest and heal. I slept on my back with like 4 pillows

Give your surgeon a call. Four weeks seems too long for you to still be experiencing pain. Do you think you might have pulled a muscle at some point? Some surgeons do an internal tethering stitch it could be this causing the pulling sensation.

I was one of those with no real incision pain. A little discomfort for a week & then for another week if I did a little more than my body was ready for. I slept on my side & partially on my tummy from day 2. I have nightmares if I sleep on my back so I was pleased I didn’t need to.

I had the same issue. It hurt (like being stabbed) if I bent over and I felt a a painful pulling sensation inside if I lay on either side for spell. I spoke to my surgeon at my 4 week check and he said it wasn’t uncommon to feel pain at the incision sites especially the two at the front and to give it time. I am now almost 2 months post op (22 Feb) and the pain is gone. Hope it eases for you soon.

I’m 7-8 weeks out and still get a pinch every now and then. Mostly in bed when I roll over and my stomach kind of pulls.

My surgeon said it’s normal. Scar tissue forming and pulling.

My incisions are healed but still tender. Nerve like feelings around them as the cut nerves heal.

My wife had abdominal surgery 5 years ago and experienced the same thing.

I think you’re fine…

I appreciate all the assurance. I guess I just misunderstood the healing time as explained by my surgery team. I had my gallbladder removed and a complete thyroidectomy in the past and don't remember either being this painful.

Had my gastric bypass and hernia repair surgery 3/29. I'm going through the exact same thing. I fear I over worked myself around the house and walking too long. The worst pain is near my belly button (probably referred pain from left incision). It's miserable right now. I can't stand up for more than a minute. I hope you're doing better!

Hey there. Waiting to schedule my surgery, which should be sometime in May or maybe June. I had my gallbladder out in Dec and have 3 sites and had a total of 12 staples. I got the random burning stinging pain for a few weeks, and the one basially in my belly button would get annoyed sometimes with certain pants. I too have a complete thyroidectomy in 2021, and that didn't bother me at all. (I'm from AL too, lol) Both surgeries, the only real issue I had is that I'm allergic to the adhesive in bandages, so I clawed myself and they were so whelped up. That part stunk. You can still see on my stomach where the adhesive was on my gallbladder sites. :(

It probably took about 4-5 days for them to stop hurting, but what was the worst, was that they itched for about 2-3 weeks. After 6-8 weeks, none of my incisions were tender anymore.

I have the same issue. I had my surgery 3/13, five weeks post op and my abdominal incision on the right side is still giving me a hard time. If I twist, reach or turn a certain way it can go from burning to stabbing. My team said it’s not unusual for this to happen, can take six months to completely heal. I’m 41 so I thought it would go faster… nope! Guess he got me in “just” the right spot 😂

I bought an abdominal binder and that really helped! Take it easy and let others give you a hand if you can. 🤗

I'm allergic to adhesive too. They didn't put any bandages on me after my sleeve surgery. Just skin glue. Hopefully they will do that for you also.

Oh thanks for that info! I hope they don't, as you know it is awful.

I got the medical glue, too, and was so glad. I am allergic to adhesives, also.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
