Hi everyone,
I had my gastric sleeve on 2/9 and have not really been doing to well and was hoping to get some feedback. I ended up back in the er yesterday after having terrible chest pain after attempting to swallow my omeprazole. It got stuck twice 🤦‍♀️ ct scan showed a hiatal hernia that is inflamed from surgery and I was severely dehydrated. I now have to crush all my meds given fluids but I started having terrible liquid diarrhea on day 3 post op. I will literally have some Water and immediately have liquid green uncontrollable diarrhea. I told the doctors about it but they were not concerned. I feel dizzy and weak struggling on liquid intake. Does this diarrhea end? I feel like I need something to solidify this like a bite of toast or something but only on Clear Liquids until my post op appointment tomorrow but I’m miserable. I was supposed to return to work today and unable to as I feel like I’m going to faint. I have called my doctor but I am told all of this is normal and I’m feeling discouraged. Any and all advice is appreciated!
Thanks,
Jenny

Yes, it's miserable, at first. But, it will get better. I had diarrhea - bad - at first, too. Once you start eating more solid foods, your poop will firm up. Don't push it by trying to eat. There's a reason why you're on a liquid diet.

This too shall pass. It might pass like a kidney stone, but it WILL pass. Hang in there.

Yes it does get better. At the moment you’re healing from pretty major surgery & everything is swollen, tender & sensitive. Diarrhoea, nausea, low energy, light headedness, difficulty swallowing are all pretty common post surgical experiences. You’ll find in a month or so it has passed.

I had a terribly embarrassing diarrhoea experience on day 3. Got up to pee, took a couple of steps & oh gracious no. Gush. No warning at all. It was dark from surgical bleeding & had a foul odour. I had just the one attack but a friend had it persist for about a week. Beware ‘wet farts’. Her surgeon had recommended disposal knickers - she said it was best advice.

I also had a lot of swelling in my throat making swallowing everything for Water to meds a struggle for a few days. It was pretty much fine by day 4.

It’s important to at least be close to your fluid goals. Dehydration is a real issue for us after surgery. Try warming your water, shakes & other fluids. Warm drinks tend to be more soothing & easier to swallow. I was allowed green or herbal teas - they were fabulous. Don’t worry if you sip on your shakes & Soups for ages as long as you’re getting them in. I also used to dilute them to make them thinner & easier to tolerate (esp the shakes which were disgusting after surgery). Bonus was I was consuming more Fluid.

All the best.

I’m sorry you’re experience this. I had surgery on 2/8/23 with a larger hernia repair as well and I’m still experiencing diarrhea. Definitely not as bad as the first few days but it’s still there. I hope it gets better as well. I’ve been wearing extra long pads in case I can’t make it to the bathroom in time. Hope you have a speedy recovery!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
