Had my surgery on the 7th. Got out of the hospital yesterday morning. So far, pretty good. A few minor gas pains and sore shoulder, but nothing unbearable so far.

Wishing you all luck if your surgery is today or upcoming!
Congratulations

Had my sleeve 2/23/23 and was discharged same day. (Self Pay). So far so good! No nausea, and Gas-X has helped a lot. Nothing unbearable. My pharmacy had packets of "Liquid IV", touted as a hydration multiplier, on the counter when I picked up my medications, so I gave that a try. It has a nice light flavor, nothing overpowering like some. I was pretty close to getting all my liquids in yesterday. I have a caffeine headache today! I keep dreaming that I forgot and ate food!

Good for the most part. Transitions are painful (rolling from back to side, sit to/from stand, sit to/from laying down. Shoulder pain gets less the more I pass gas (I have never been so excited to fart in my life [emoji1787])

I was released from the hospital the next day, which I was determined to do, however, it was nice that the nurses were there regulating when I needed to take my meds.

I recommend getting a belly band! I'm so glad I have mine I think it just keeps everything together nice and snug while you are recovering default_smile.png&key=c7f7f3b9d6cf127cae811ee1f47ab94bd104c6b640ca298b4b4f1076c40ef73e.

My parents are staying with me, which is awesome. Definitely have a good support system to come home to [emoji3]

Congratulations! I had my sleeve on 2/8 and lost 18 lbs since then. Today was my first day at the gym. My doctor said only the treadmill - I was going super slow. I feel the weight difference on my knee that was giving me a lot of trouble. Definitely feeling the positive effects of the surgery!

Surgery 2/10. First 24 hours was pretty rough with the gas but lots of laps in the hospital helped. During the two week postop diet, I was struggling with fluids and Protein because I was just so over it. I’m not stressing about it. I just do what I can. I’m now 16 days postop and it’s easier to get my fluids in but I’m still so sick of Protein Shakes. I found Oikos Greek yogurt with 15 grams of protein. The vanilla flavor is amazing…. Yum! I’m on puréed diet for the past three days, threw up twice just eating too fast because I was starving. But now I have adjusted to eating more slowly so I don’t throw up. The only issue I have is the bariatric Vitamins. I’ve been taking the chewable ones and they are absolutely awful and they make me vomit. I’ve taken them on a full stomach too, and they still make me sick. I’m trying to find a good Vitamin to take that doesn’t upset my stomach. I just ordered the BariMelts which I know are not recommended by my doctor, but they are known to be gentler on the stomach, so something is better than nothing. I have the calcium chews and those are fine. Does anyone have a good vitamin that they like it doesn’t make them sick?

Also, I’m down 18 pounds and I’m fine with that as I am a lower BMI.

HI RoxyChick! I see you had the lap band a while ago, and live in Cali. I had the lapband in 2007, unfilled in 09, then removed in '11. Im in N. Cty San Diego. I'm now 3 days post op with the sleeve.

Yes, I got the lap band taken out about 6 months after I got it. That was the worst thing ever! Constant vomiting and it was slipping. Ugh!

So excited for VSG! 3 day post op was when I started telling better. You got this!

I had surgery 2 days before you. nothing (literally, lol) makes me sick. I take the barimelts. Theyre... okay. initial taste is fine but have a terrible aftertaste/burp. lol

im on all solid foods (soft/chewed really well). about the only thing i havent tried yet are raw veg/salad. I figure ill give that a bit longer just because I know its a bit harder to digest. I am getting all of my protein from food at this point, 60 grams and am eating around 7/800 calories a day. losing around 3 pounds a week (lower BMI), which I am good with. Slower rate of loss means more muscle kept and less loose skin ;)

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
