Has anyone had an ulcer? What were your symptoms?

Recommended Posts

I'm currently 7 weeks post op and trying to figure out why I have been nauseous after eating and drinking since week 3 (and it's getting worse). I'm thinking a stricture, but I also have a feeling an ulcer could possibly be the problem? I have a really bad reaction to PPI's so I've been on H2Blockers twice a day since surgery. Unfortunately, I've been on them for 10 months prior for GERD and their effectiveness wears off over time. So..........I'm worried I could have developed an ulcer. My nausea is getting a lot worse (started to be nauseous to just harder food, now its all food and water) and I have to take Zofran every day. I have an appt. with a surgeon next week (my surgeon is on maternity leave). I'm hoping to at least get an upper GI series to see if they can see anything. I don't have much pain with this, so just wondering if most people had pain with ulcer or just nausea or both? Were there other symptoms? Thanks to everyone reading this. I'm really at that point of regretting my surgery but I'm telling myself to hang in there.

more likely a stricture. You're in the window for it (they almost always occur 1-3 months after surgery - very rare after that)

I had one at four weeks out and another at eight weeks out. I had the same symptoms that you do.

if it's just food you can't keep down, you'll be OK for a few days - people can live without food for awhile. But if it gets to the point you can't keep fluids down, either, then you need to go to the ER. People can't live without fluids for long. They'll do an upper endoscopy and stretch it out - and you'll feel a million times better afterward!

strictures get worse over time - so keep an eye on it. Again, if you can't keep fluids down, go to the hospital.

I had ulcers pre surgery. You get sharp pains, sometimes pain in the chest/upper stomach area, it can cause heartburn, make you nauseous, cause gas pain.

If you are having issues, get it checked out.

My symptoms were constant burning and gnawing in my stomach, right below the breastbone, above the belly button. It felt like constant severe hunger pains. Taking anti-acids or eating something only temporarily helped. People with gerd and ulcers tend to gain weight because the food in the stomach soaks up the acid but unfortunately, it's a very temporary pain reliever. I suffered from gerd/ulcer for years and controlled it with PPIs, but the last 6 months before my revision, my symptoms progressed as I described above, and I knew I couldn't hold off revision any longer.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
