to those of you post op who had sleep apnea and cpap/bipap machines…..

Did your sleep apnea improve?

How long/how much weight before it did?

Did you stop using your machine/when?

i am down about 50 lbs already since my in lab sleep titration test (70+ since my at home sleep study) and I was severe and needing bipap. (tmi but i was having issues with hypoxic morning Migraines and sleep paralysis) I hate my machine but like not getting hypoxic at night so I still wear it. Just went to sleep dr and they were not really helpful with the question. said I would need to loose “significant” weight before I would need retesting or come off the machine, kinda discounting my loss so far… said if i had a “miraculous” weight loss over the next few months to call, otherwise they would see me in a year.

Just wanted to hear experiences from everyone, but especially high bmi peeps

thanks!!

I had rather severe sleep apnea before surgery as well. I had a CPAP as well, but I generally didn't use it because it really bothered me. My apnea has disappeared completely, but I'm afraid I can't say at what point it did--which I realize isn't terribly helpful.

My surgeon and I agreed that at 6 months post-op, it would be a good time for me to get retested. Your results may vary, because where I started, the rate I'm losing at and the amount of weight I lost pre-op are all different than you. I suspect I'll be at most, within 20 pounds of my initial goal weight at the 6 month mark and very likely less than that.

So i have lost close to around 100lb. So i have a cpap machine and once in a while when i am real tired i forget to use it. Before surgery if i did that i would take up with a massive headache and i have yet to have that happen. I did not use my machine two days ago either and no issues. I guess i would need another sleep study to find out if i actually still need it or not. I actually like using my cpap which everyone thinks is weird lol.

I fell asleep on the sofa one night and most time I would wake up rather gasping or with severe sore throat from the snoring. I actually woke up rested and with out any issues. I think I might be on the verge of not needing it soon spoke with surgery team and mention it to them about my experience. They were happy and recommend I keep using it for now and set up a new sleep study . So I'm going to wait till month 3 or so. I'm just on my 7 week for now but very excited .

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
