I have a Sept 19th date for a revision from GB to a DS. Is there anyone in SLC area who is having surgery around this time?

Hey Sptember pals,

Had my VSG on 9/15. Stayed in hospital overnight. First day after surgery I slept most of the day while anesthesia wore off. Had a catheter, so didn't have to worry about going to the bathroom. Fun surprise though, my period started two weeks early. Doc said it happens a lot to women that have been on liquid diet. I was really light and actually forgot until I got up about 8hr after surgery. No biggie, they had put a pad on me post surgery.

Anyhow, had no problems walking. Pain wasn't bad, but I had pain meds. IV pain meds until about midnight when they switched to oxycodone to see how I'd react to it going home. Also had a nausea patch. No nausea and pain wasn't too bad.

Worst part was getting in and out of bed. Or rolling over in bed. That remains now that I'm home. Came home yesterday around noon. Stayed on top of the pain meds every 4 hours and still walked around the house a bit.

Today, feeling better. May fully switch to Tylenol by this evening.

Oh yes, more observations. At some points over the last couple days since surgery I have felt hunger. Or what I thought was hunger. May be the effects of gas though, hard to discern what I'm feeling because everything is still kind of weird. I was feeling very disappointed about it, was very much hoping for no hunger. But again, not sure if it is pressure from gas, maybe acid?

I'm still okay, it is helped by drinking Water and fluids. Focusing today on getting enough fluids down.

Anyone else experience this? The maybe hungry type feeling?

*I know I didn't explain that well, just don't quite have words to describe the feeling.

I know exactly what you are describing! I couldn’t figure it out either but I definitely do not think it’s hunger...in the true rumbly tummy and hunger headache sense. I believe it is just gas and in my case, some crazy mixed signals with my brain. It’s really hard figuring out exactly what my new pouch can hold and I’ve seen on here that maintaining a regular eating schedule is key. I’ve over done it twice now because I thought I was hungry. Neither time had a good ending - so to speak.

I'm glad everything went well!! My period showed up a few days before surgery too, luckily it had lightened up for the day of. I kinda wish I had a cath, I was up every 2 hours needing to pee.

About the hunger! Same! It's the excess stomach acid, at least for me. It's not just noise, right? Like it's actually a little painful? I could literally be watching my family eat and totally not be interested with no stomach reaction, then later take a sip of a Protein Shake or just Water and then it's painful gurgling feed me now time, like I woke up a beast. It was the worst the first week and now it's tapered off, I assume because my body is adapting to how much acid my stomach needs.

This video also helped ease my mind!

Definitely hard to tell between hunger and gas! I don’t feel like I have been hungry. It feels different all the way around. I have been trying to make myself eat on a schedule so that hopefully I can tell what feeling is what! And as always I am still pushing my limits and plan on going back to work Monday!

What’s a DS?

A DS is the Duodenal Switch. This is the surgery they do as the second stage of a sleeve or can be done by itself. Research has shown it to have the most weight loss of bariatric surgeries and usually the least regain. I hope this helps :)

So you can switch a GB to a DS? I was just reading about those and kind of wish I would have known that was an option.

It is definitely a much more complicated surgery and you have to find a surgeon who has done numerous ones. They will essentially undo the GB and make it a sleeve and then DS. It takes about 3-4 hrs and an overnight stay. But, it can absolutely be done :)

If near Utah, there is a surgeon who has been listed as one of like 6 in the US who is certified for these revisions.

How are you feeling, I had the gastric bypass.

Congrats! I’m feeling pretty ok. Still sore around the incision they pulled the stomach out of and I also just found out that I have shingles lol but things could always be worse! Starting to get the hang of Fluid and Protein intake, so that’s a plus.

How about you? xx

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
