August surgery buddies!

  • Popular Post

Hi everyone! I am scheduled for my gastric sleeve for August 17th. I am 5'3" and 230 lbs so the doctor said I need to lose 100 lbs. Honestly I am super nervous and keep having thoughts of excitement but then I think well maybe I will just cancel it. Is it normal to feel this way? I would love to meet other people that are scheduled on the same month or around so we can somewhat do this process together.

Hello August buddies! I am scheduled on 8/16 ?. I have had thoughts of cancellation but my pancreas is no longer functioning correctly so I realize this is a lifesaving procedure for me. My doctor told me 100 lbs needs to get off of me ASAP. I can’t remember how 140 felt, lol!

Looks like we are surgery twins… and I’m right there with you on that surgery anxiety.

My liver function numbers were not great and my liver was VERY enlarged. That’s what finally made me agree to even look into WLS. I have more to loose than you but knowing the weight loss I have had leading up to this has already made a difference, I know I’m on the right path.

I’m scared… anxious and a little overwhelmed right now. The closer it gets the more those feelings flood me. I know that this is the best thing for me (and my family).

My pcp sat me down and said - are you committed to going forward? I said, yes - I think it’s the right thing to do (kinda hesitating). He said no… if you are sure this is the right thing and committing to it - then you go into with a positive attitude and go forward with confidence, it will make all the difference in the world. So I’m trying to be confident and positive.

I’m scared - and it’s ok to be scared, but we all have more reasons to go forward than not, make the most out our new tools and find success no matter how many or few pounds that is.

Together we can get through this! Deep breaths… we got this!! ?

I’m on day 2 (of ? of mine. I can honestly say I haven’t felt physically hungry but the head hunger (wanting to taste textures and or certain foods) showed it’s self today. It wasn’t bad… but it was there.

I’m full liquids (no solid food) - so taking in 123+ ounces a day (between the Protein Shakes, Water and juice requirements), and that’s kept my tummy full.

Last night was rough - I felt like I woke up constantly to run to the potty. Despite all the fluids, I woke up with a dry mouth and a dehydration headache (don’t ask me how). It went away as soon as I started drinking again.

Today I tried getting all my fluids in by 7pm to prevent the constant waking.

I’m a little tired today from waking up and probably from the the reduced calories (around 870) I think, but I’m hoping my body will adjust and my energy will perk back up toward the end of the week.

Best of luck! It really isn’t that bad… so far. I’ll see how I feel on day 6. Lol

I am so scared of the headaches! I use to get bad headaches from not drinking caffeine.

I always use to hear drinking more water gives you energy, lets hope it does it for us since we cannot have any sorts of solids.

Good luck!!

Me too!!!!

August buddies!!! So I had a ZOOM - group education appointment about our post-op diet and I am crying inside that I won't be able to eat regular food until November!

Aug 11th here. I honestly don't even know how to feel right now. I finally got past the nausea and was able to get my fluids in yesterday, so I guess that is my first NSV. I'm not hungry at all though. So trying to get my protein in today may be a challenge. I also had my gallbladder taken out. So my pain on the right side is something else at times.

I’m struggling to get in my Protein, all the sweet/thick Protein Shakes make me so nauseous… I’m drinking Bone Broth now, and it’s going down much easier! It’s only 9g protein which isn’t much, but I figured something Is better than nothing ??‍♀️

Try adding flavorless protein to the broth. I use Iso Pure.

Just had my pre-op covid test. Wednesday is the day!

How exciting!!! I was told “we will only call you if there’s a problem” … so I obsessed until I checked my portal and saw that negative result.
Good luck everyone having surgery this week and speedy recovery to all.

Just got my time for tomorrow and my heart jumped into my throat when I saw the hospital name on the caller ID.

I have to be at the hospital at 7:30 am … not sure if I’m their first of the day, but at least I’m before lunch… so hopefully by this time tomorrow I am in my room and resting comfortably… or taking a lap. Lol.

Deep breaths… calm, relaxing & positive thoughts… ?

Good luck! I'm so excited for you.

Half way through the month! Good luck to everyone coming up this week and I hope those who have gone before are having a good recovery!

Anyone who already had it already back at work? This has been my biggest worry.

I bought one of those protein laden broths from a Bariatric company. They aren’t bad and since they would something warm you might not mind having that. It has 20gms of protein. I hope you start feeling better soon!
