Shopping in Bariatric Pal Store

Recommended Posts

So I have been browsing around the Bariatric Pal Store. Has anyone bought from here? If so, do you have recommendations of Vitamins, Protein powders or anything you can think of? There does seem to be alot of things out of stock.

I am curious if the PatchAid Patches work? Has anyone tried these and whats your thoughts on them?

Also, if there is something you buy frequently and its out of stock, given the supply chain problems; does it take long before they restock?

I have read reviews where the shipping is slow? But I didnt know if thats a warehouse problem or USPS problem?

I have bought several things. I am currently using the Patches but just for the first few weeks til i can get into solid food. I also bought the Barimelt multi Vitamin and the Bariatric pal Multivitamin ONE with 45mg Iron. Tho i have tried that one and that one makes me nauseated for about 30 minutes about 15 minutes after taking it. Also i love the Chike Nutrition High Protein Iced coffee (Chocolate mocha) Its delicious. I also got the little Protein Shots but i see they been sold out for a while.

Bariatric pal Multivitamin ONE with 45mg Iron.

I would need something without Iron (I think I saw some). I have to watch that closely or I can get Constipation on a horrible scale. I spoke with my surgeon the other day and asked her if I can use products, Vitamins etc without iron because my body just cant deal with it and then I get big problems lol. Outside of natural absorption I stay away from products with Iron lol 😛

Im looking at trying the PatchAid myself.

Ill have to look at the Chike Nutrition....thanks

I haven’t shopped In the Bariatric Pal Store yet. Please let us know how it goes and what’s good if you do. The Patches though I did ask my NP about them. She said she has yet to find any reputable research that shows that they do indeed work. She said that doesn’t mean they don’t of course but she hasn’t seen anything yet to prove that they do. Idk if that helps. Made me decide to give the capsules a fair shake first and they work fine for me.

Pro Care health sells theirs with or without iron. It’s a one a day multi as well. My team of course suggested I get the one with iron but they do have it without. They also have one with a lower amount of iron.

Yea all i have found is people who use them and go get their blood tested to see if their Vitamin levels are low or normal.

Have you found a lot of people who have used them and had good levels?

Only thing i have read is the reviews of them where people say they got their bloodwork and shows the Patches work.

I might just try the Patches to see if my bloodwork after surgery is good or not. At least like liveaboard15 is doing for a couple weeks.

I never had issues with the store - but then, I'm several years out so I no longer buy bariatric-specific food, so it's probably been six years since I bought anything from there. I suspect they're dealing with the same issues everyone else is - shipping delays.

re: vitamin patches - the jury is out on those. My clinic advises again them, and from what I've read here over the last few years, they're not alone in this. Patches seem to work well for some people, but not for others. I've never tried them since with my luck I'd be part of the latter group, although I've considered getting them for traveling since it would mean no Vitamin bottles to lug around (and take up space in my suitcase). Since I'm almost never away from home for more than 10 days or so, even if they didn't work for me, no harm done.

I have decided against them as well now. I did some research and same as what you said, works for some and not others. I also agree, Id probably be one of the ones it didnt work for lol. I forget tho, when did everyone start their bariatric Vitamins? Before surgery or after surgery 1st or 2nd week?

I started mine with the pre op diet. Except surgery day of course and maybe a couple days after depending on how you are feeling.

Ok.....so I tried the sample I received Black Grape multi Vitamin from Bariatric Advantage. I am NOT a fan of it and I usually like anything grape tasting. It smelled like pee lol....sorry about that but I dont know if my sense of smell has heightened since being on Pre Op liquid diet or what but to me that was awful lol. I have next to no hunger pains anymore and I dont feel hungry which is surprising since this is pre op for me. Please tell me the Vitamins dont smell and taste like that 😂

I took their mixed berry flavor and I never noticed a pee smell. Lol. They definitely had a strong smell but it was Vitamins to me. Hopefully that’s just the flavor and not one of the vitamins that smells gross to you. Where did you get your samples? Can you try another flavor??

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
