60 cals a serving is very low! Most are like 180-210.

I eat real ketchup on real burgers (No bun) and I eat real french fries, too. Not too many and not very often, but I can't live the rest of my life on chicken breast (it's hard to eat anyway!).

I ate ketchup for the first time Monday since surgery, regular ketchup. 1 serving, on a black bean burger with no bun. It was perfecccttt. Nothing happened. I was fine. (4 weeks post op)

I haven't had anything fried yet, but I am still fresh. I know I will though. Like you said, a few at a time once in a while.

I am 7 and a half months post surgery and I am just now able to eat fried foods (which I do very little of by the way). I can only do small amounts because it gives me an upset stomach. I really don't miss it much anyway and have used the air fryer in place of fried in oil foods and it is very good that way and very much lower in fat and calories.

I bought an air fryer before surgery but struggle to use it. I have only made potatoes in it. (before surgery)

That does seem rather low (I wasn’t given limits for fat or carbs just keep low) but you are only eating a small amount of food at the moment. And there are good fats & bad fats. I’d ask if your fat allowance refers to all ‘total fats’ or just bad fats like saturated fats, trans fats, etc.

Our body does need some fats to function effectively & that does include small amounts of saturated fats. if your fats are predominately coming from animal Proteins (saturated bad fat) maybe swap in some more seafood (unsaturated good fats) & some plant proteins to balance your intake a little. But to meet our daily Protein goals we’re going to be consuming fats.

Little things help. Avoid processed foods which often contain trans fat (the worst fat). Look to poaching, roasting/baking & other cooking methods that require no added fat. Invest in an air fryer & a non stick fry pan. Watch low fat foods as some contain additional sugars, artificial sweeteners or other substitutes so the flavour &/or texture is similar to the full fat versions (read nutritional panels carefully).

If you’re not able to see your dietician for a while, can you email questions to them?

Yes, I have those an air fryer and non stick pans. I don't add fat to anything unless I am making a huge recipe of something and it calls for a little, even then I try to cut it back, remove it or substitute.

I got in touch with my nutritionist yesterday, he said it is there just to make you aware and paying attention. I shared a bunch of my meals and he assured me I am doing perfect and not to stress about it.

Pretty much anything you would fry or bake can go in there. Gardein makes the ultimate chick n filet that in the air fryer you would swear is a chick filet pattie. It is vegan and is very, very good and has a lot of Protein

I am in phase 3 (soft foods) I don't remember all the macro allowances but fat is 13g max!
DO YOU KNOW HOW HARD AND PRETTY MUCH IMPOSSIBLE THAT IS????
Unless you live off of fish it is nearly impossible! Which I am not a big fan of but I do get it in sometimes, tuna and mahi is pretty much it though.
Yesterday I ate:
Fairlife Protein shake
2oz Turkey breast/light cheese on a tiny tortilla roll up
4oz Ground turkey breast taco/ light cheese on a tiny tortilla roll up (This was my largest meal so far, I actually ate it in 2 sessions. lol)
I had 23g fat yesterday!
I know most of it comes from the cheese (even light cheese) but shesh! Even if I had passed on ALL of the cheese (which was only 1.5 servings total) I still would have had 18g fat.
Stage 4 and "normal life" it goes up to I think 20g so it will be a little easier.
Any pointers? I am going to reach out to my nutritionist also because I don't see him for another 3 weeks.

Is it supposed to be 13g per MEAL instead of per DAY maybe? My program has me aiming for less than 10g sugar and 10g fat per meal if possible, but mostly focusing on hitting Protein goals (80g daily).

I wish, haha. It is per day.

PS: I learned the other day that you can set your own macros/calories to meet your goals in fitness pal.

I have found My Fitness Pal very easy to follow and navigate through. Yes, being able to adjust your macros is great!

It helps to keep you on track. If I dont do it every day I find (pre op) that Id stray too much!

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
