Realistic expectation of when workouts can start post-op

Recommended Posts

So I’m 8 months into pre-op phase for RNY. Closing in on surgery once paperwork is complete. I’ve started CrossFit for the last 8 months and finally love an exercise! One of my biggest worries post op is the ability to get back to the gym. What’s a realistic expectation or what has happened for you all? I’m afraid it will be months and I’m afraid I’ll be sickly and weak and not able to get back to it. That would be very sad for me for sure. How did you feel goin back and how long did it take to not feel run down?

I waited about 2 months to get back to working with my trainer. Honestly, the first month exercise was the last thing on my mind, so I just went on walks. Then my energy started to build and I easily got back into it. I didn't feel weak after the first month or so, but I wanted to make sure my incisions were all well healed before I jumped back into exercise.

I was encouraged to walk right away.

at four weeks out, I was cleared to do everything except for weights.

at eight weeks out, I was cleared for weights.

These exercises should be performed at least twice per week for the first six weeks after your procedure. They are designed to increase blood flow throughout your body and warm up your muscles prior to any weight training. These exercises are not hard, but rather intended to get your blood flowing through your system, loosen up your joints and prepare your muscles for the upcoming workout. You can perform these exercises before or after your workout.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
