February 2022 Surgery Buddies

Recommended Posts

I am getting RNY on 2/3/2022 in Denver CO. I had lap band in 2014 and worked for a few years but it was causing problems so had it removed in October, 2021 and now getting ready for this revision. I am anxious but nervous that I won't know what to eat, not eat and how fast/slow - I've been so distracted lately. I need to re-read my surgery handbook...

I don't have a preop diet, which I find interesting now that I'm reading all the posts. I had a final "appointment" (via phone) with the surgeon yesterday and he's just requiring a liquid fast the day before.

How is everyone planning for time off from work? I guess it depends on the physicality of ones job.

Yea the pre diet is so different between doctors some are strict with 2 weeks liquid like mine 🤬😂 some have Protein Shakes for 2 meals then a lean meat and veggie for dinner and some none until the day before like yourself. As far as work I am taking the full 4 weeks off. I have a sit down job but I am going to use that time to focus on healing and just on myself overall, something I haven’t done in many years.

I have a surgeon who requires the strict pre-op diet. I fear my surgery getting postponed due to an insurance battle happening in GA. (The thought of prolonged Protein Shakes makes me nervous.).   You raised an interesting question about time off of work. My doctor’s said one to two weeks. I would love to do one but worry about lack of energy.

My preop diet is 1 week of full liquids. There are also some things I was told to cut 2 weeks out (NSAIDS, caffeine, alcohol. . . ) This varies for my doc based on BMI. I start my liquid diet tomorrow.

I work outside sales. I drive around all day. My Surgery is on a Thursday, I go back to work the following Wednesday. My doc said some go back to work after 4 days. I am getting the sleeve done.

Had my surgery on Monday 1/25 and I had a 2 week pre op diet of 2-3 shakes and a Protein and vegetables for lunch. sugar free Jello for desert if needed and 64 oz Water. And Clear Liquids day before. I think the pre op diet is a great way to start getting yourself into the mindset of you aren’t going to be eating a lot… I lost 16 pounds on the pre op. As for time off the dr is giving me 6 weeks because of the physical job of being a lineman. It’s only the beginning of day 3 and so far so good!!! Good luck with your surgery.

Funny, my dr didn’t say anything about no caffeine. In recovery after the surgery I was able to sip some Hot Tea with splenda.

My doc here does a 2 week intensive slimming diet with a product like Slimfast. The doctor also said that it's 6 weeks off work but I figured that was because of the different work regulations.

We have the same surgery date. I’m in NYC and I’m getting the VSG.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
