Pre-op diet as a diabetic

Recommended Posts

So I'm kind of freaking out over the pre op diet, as a diabetic...I'm worried that by not getting as many calories, my blood sugars are going to be too low. Anyone know how to manage that? My doctor said we will dial back my insulin a lot but I'm still worried. I'm on insulin, Ozempic, Gliclizide and Jardiance for diabetes and my sugars are on the high normal side of things but I am worried about lows. They terrify me.

I would guess that bariatric surgeons are used to dealing with people with diabetes and can accommodate that - but I'd contact them with your concerns just in case.

I was on an insulin pump, metformin and Ozempic when I started my pre-op diet. I was glad that I had my Dexcom because it helped me quickly adjust my insulin.

I had 2 severe lows then after talking with my endo, stopped all insulin while on < 600 calories. I’m 1 week post op and while my numbers aren’t perfect they aren’t high enough to warrant correcting.

When I am eating again, I’ll have to test and figure out how much I need.

My surgeon left all of my insulin and diabetes meds up to my endocrinologist. Make sure that you are on top of testing your blood sugar when you start the diet and communicate with your doctor regularly

I’m on preop liquid never was on insulin just metformin and my sugars are really high. My surgeon is having me see my endocrinologist on Monday. So if you have an endocrinologist I’d see him/her. My surgeon said meds are adjusted. God willing we will all be no longer diabetic after the weight loss. Fingers crossed

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
