SO much pain 2 days out

Recommended Posts

I had gastric sleeve surgery and a hiatal hernia repaired on November 30th and cannot believe the pain that I am in. Everything hurts: my legs, my arms, and of course my stomach. Is this normal? Of course I also have gas pains.

Just wondering if so much pain is normal.

Yes, I spent my entire first week wondering why I had decided to torture myself like this. If it's unbearable, call the doctor and ask they prescribe you something. I was sent home with liquid tylenol with codeine, but it was so nasty that I preferred not to take it. Walk as much as you can, it'll help with the gas pain.

pain is all across the board, but the majority of us seem to experience very little (or none - just discomfort). Sorry to hear that you are one of the unfortunate minority - although I wonder if some of the pain is coming from the hernia repair (??). Did they send you home with pain meds? If so, take those to stay on top of it. It shouldn't last more than a few days.

Sucks. Keep walking. I did laps around the island in my kitchen. Lol. Thousands of them. Hang in there. The worst is almost behind you!

We all experience different levels of pain & have different pain thresholds. You have been through a pretty major surgery. Your insides have been pushed & prodded & cut. Plus there are a lot of sutures & staples holding your tummy, etc. together. Pain also tells us if we’re doing too much or need to be more careful moving about.

You’ll probably find in a couple more days there is a decrease in the amount of pain you are experiencing. If it’s not decreasing or your prescribed pain meds aren’t helping contact your surgeon.

All the best.

I have heard that people with the hiatal hernia repair have more pain. I hope you feel better soon! Keep us posted!

I had a large hiatal hernia repair with my bypass, and felt like I'd been hit by a truck that first week. So it can definitely knock you about! As others have said, walk as far as you can each day without overdoing it to alleviate the gas pain, and the surgery pain will improve. It took me about two weeks to not feel pain when breathing in.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
