Post op.... Taste in my mouth... Its it normal?

Recommended Posts

I am a week post op. Since surgery I have had such a gross taste in my mouth. I thought it was taking orally dissolvable medication. Then I tight it was the lack of food variety? I have been brushing my teeth, flossing, using a tongue scraper (my tongue has been very coated). It isn't oral thrush, I've checked. My breath is rank. Is this normal? Will it improve? Please tell me it will as my food intake returns to normal 🙏

The taste is that you are in ketosis. You are eating low fat and low carb so your body goes into Ketosis and you get that weird taste in your mouth. during Ketosis you burn fat like crazy so keep the carbs low and let it happen. Make sure you are getting your Protein and taking your Vitamins. It will get better as you get on a normal diet but enjoy the rapid weight loss now.

A 3rd vote for ketosis. Drinking extra Water can help, but that's not so easy when you're one week post-op.

I agree, the same has happened to me. My pre op is 0 carbs and only Protein from low fat milk and low fat yogurt. Toothpaste is my best friend

Thanks all. I don't know why this hadn't occurred to me. Seems obvious really! Can't wait for the taste to go. Feel like I need to wear a mask! 😂

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
