Water question

Recommended Posts

I am a month and two weeks out from my sleeve surgery. It’s much easier to drink Water now. Is there a certain amount we should be sipping at a time or can we pretty much drink water in one period as much as we can handle? I want to make sure I’m not ingesting it too fast for my stomach or something like that. I don’t feel that much restriction with water so I don’t want to stretch my stomach.

Sipping throughout the day. If you need to "guzzle" because you're really thirsty, that means you are already dehydrated. You might be able to consume more ounces at once by guzzling, but for me, it actually hurt and made me throw up. This went on for about two years. Still, four years after my surgery, I can only drink about 6 oz in a minute or two. Honestly, drink as much and as frequently as you want but make sure you're not hurting yourself.

I actually had a glucose tolerance test recently and they had to cancel it because I couldn't drink all of the sugary liquid in the time they needed. I ended up throwing up.

Thanks! Yes, I can’t guzzle a whole bottle but I can get maybe 4 ounces in before it feels uncomfortable. Perhaps I should ease up. Some days I’m averaging 40 oz other days 64. I noticed the amount depends on what time in the morning I get up and plan my meals around not eating and drinking within 30 min of eachother. I would like to increase my intake.

Some people seem to be able to go back to drinking a lot at a time & others not so much. In my third year, I’m in the not so much camp. Two swallows is my max. If I have that third swallow I have discomfort at the least or my restriction pain at the worst. As with eating, go slowly (swallow, wait, swallow) so you stop before the discomfort.

I believe if you sip all day long you never let yourself get dehydrated & then want to guzzle ‘gallons’ at a time. I rarely feel thirsty now & never get to that point that I think I’m ‘dying of thirst’.

I was always able to drink more than I supposedly should have been. The PA at my bariatric clinic said my stomach would let me know if I was drinking too quickly.

If you can tolerate it, the more the better. I can easily drink 12 oz in 30 minutes if it's warm. I struggle with the timing, sometimes I just have no desire to drink for 1-2 his after eating.

You’re not going to stretch your stomach with Water, it’s in and out too quickly for that. I’m in the same boat with being able to drink a relatively large amount after surgery. Don’t ever drink to the point of discomfort and you’ll be fine.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
