No energy at all!

Had sleeve on June 6 and have no energy! I can barely go up & down my stairs without feeling weak & dizzy, is this normal?

While it’s certainly normal to not be at 100% after surgery, feeling dizzy was on my list of symptoms to contact my doctor about. It never hurts just to be on the safe side.

Are you sure you are getting enough fluids? I had my surgery on June 7th and my energy is definitely zapped but I am able to handle the stairs and some slow walks. I still take a nap every day and my body is still recovering but no dizziness. You might check in with your doctor to see if dehydration could be a factor.

Possible dehydration, low caloric intake, low blood pressure, recovery all contribute to a lack of energy after surgery. I experienced low energy levels for ages & my tendency to low blood pressure (random drops) became full blown orthostatic hypotension after surgery. Every time I got up the world would go black & my head would sometimes get a bit doughy. It’s not quite as bad now - only happens a few times a day & not all day long.

If the dizziness is from from drops in your blood pressure there are things you can do to help avoid injury from falling. Get up slowly. Once standing don’t move for a minute. When you do start walking making sure there’s a wall, chair, table near you that you can grab to ground you if you get dizzy & stop moving (I’ve even grabbed people 😁). It passes in about 10 seconds for me.

Have a chat with your medical team & get your BP checked. Up your Fluid intake & add some extra salt to your diet. If you’re on meds for high blood pressure they may need to be adjusted.

Take things slowly.

I had my sleeve surgery on June 3rd (so almost 3 weeks ago) and am not dizzy anymore, but am still pretty exhausted. The one serving of caffeine I'm allowed to have only helps for a short while. Still SO tired! I had to go back to work after one week, but since I work at a desk job, I thought it would be ok. Now, I'm wondering if I should have taken more leave...

I usually nap everyday, but I don’t feel week or dizzy. Definitely contact your surgeon. I walked 5 miles today, so in that respect I have energy…

I walk 5 miles to be more active sometimes I take my dog Bentley for a ride on the bike
