Abdominal pain 2 weeks out?

Recommended Posts

I am having a different kind of abdominal pain in the last day or so near the biggest incision. Everything looks normal, it feels like soreness under the skin, like a dull pain. It's not very strong pain, 2/10, but it's different from what I was experiencing before (tearing/burning feeling around the incision when I made some movements but not this dull feeling). Almost feels like a muscle strain or something and it's freaking me out. I was thinking it could be gas but it's just on the right side of my abdomen. Is that something any of you experienced?

I would consult your surgeon to be sure if you're worried but, and I just said this to my husband last night, I too have been having, the last two days specifically, this sort of weird feeling kinda under my skin in that location. Almost like if I touch my skin there, or clothes rub against it, it's a strange nerve uncomfortableness/slight pain, sorta thing going on? Almost like a nerve thing right under my skin. Anyway, it's not so bad or unusual that I feel I myself need to call anyone. I figured I'll wait a few days to see if anything changes.

I'm also just over two weeks out. But I also still get that burning/tugging feeling and still can't sleep on my sides because of it. It's getting read old. LOL

I would say that if you are really concerned just ask your surgeon or the office they have answered every question out there so they should be able to help. But a few days after my surgery, I felt what I thought was a weird lump under my biggest incision (where they removed the stomach) and it really freaked me out. I thought I had a hernia or something and had that dull pain which did sometimes become sharper when I stood. For me, it ended up being where the muscle was healing together. It went away after about a month but was getting better during that time. My surgeon's office said that it's something to be concerned about if it is getting worse.

I understand about that. I had my sleeve on 5/10. Had pain from 7-9 (on pain scale) from surgery onward. On 5/26, went to ER where I was diagnosed with acute pancreatitis. Admitted to hospital on 5/29 and gallbladder removed on 6/2. Was in ER again today because of post op pain and reflare of pancreatitis (Lipase is over 900, 350 is high range). I talked to my surgeon but finally had to listen to what my body was saying. I'm hopeful that this will reduce sooner rather than later.

I'm not saying you have the exact same issue, but pain is a signal. If I moved, it hurt. If I sneezed, oh god - bad. Coughing - no. Water on stomach when showering - F. Listen to your body, annoy your surgeon and keep asking questions.

I hope you feel better and the pain subsides.

J

Hey all! I am 13 days out from the sleeve. For the past few days I’ve been having pain /burning when I move a certain way, stand up, stretch, bend over ext, it’s not constant at all. After I sit down, get situated, it doesn’t hurt. It has nothing to do with eating. I guess what bothers me about it is that I have had MANY days that were pain free since the surgery, then this. It totally feels ‘muscular’, and it’s definitely under my ‘holes’, I just wondered if it’s the ‘normal’ healing process. I have my 2 week check up on Tuesday. Any experience or knowledge would be helpful! Thanks!

In response to TripletsMom, Yes, I had that until about 3 weeks out. One of the reasons I could not sleep laying down until that all stopped. If I tried I felt nothing but burning, tugging, and some pain around the incision sites. I'd say give it another week and they'll probably be better.

Thank you so much for your insight SummerTimeGirl! I needed that reassurance, I walked 1.8 miles after I wrote that, it was "painful but not unbearable", so I kept going. I tried to think "work through it, MAKE it go away", I wasn't "power walking", but just trying to "strengthen those muscles" ( I guess, lol). Needless to say, I was pretty ready to SIT down. It was the longest walk since surgery, it definitely felt good to be back on the track, it made my heart SMILE!! :)

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
