Omeprazole and Dry Mouth

Recommended Posts

Has anyone experienced a dry mouth while taking omeprazole? I’m taking 20mg a day and have been having a wicked dry mouth, especially overnight. I know sometimes WLS patients can have dental issues post op and I know lack of saliva production can be a problem. I’ve had this before in a previous episode of taking this med and it resolved when I stopped it.

BTW I found a great resource to combat my dry mouth at night. I’ve only used it a couple of nights so far but boy what a difference it makes! XyliMelts Dry Mouth —they’re a stick on (to your gum) melting tablet that dissolves slowly over time. I’ve been waking up without a Sahara mouth.

I get it sometimes overnight and was wondering if it might be due to an antacid - so I guess so! I have a generic Biotene mouthwash and also Biotene spray on my night stand next to my bed. I've seen those XyliMelts mentioned somewhere - I might try those. And yes - I don't think dental issues are too common since we don't hear much about them on here (occasionally, but infrequently), but I talked to my dentist about it before I had surgery, and he said it's probably due acid - but I think dry mouth could probably cause issues, too (btw - he said he's never seen dental issues in any of his patients who've had WLS, but he's read about it in professional literature)

I woke up after surgery and my mouth was stuck together it was so dry. Thankfully I had read this and took dry mouth spray. I have not really been having problems at night at this time.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
