Kitchen gadgets

Recommended Posts

My RNY is scheduled for Feb 3 so I'm doing my last minute shopping. What kitchen gadgets have you found helpful post WLS? My initial thinking has been the following: blender, sieve, food scale, air fryer. Am I overthinking things or overlooking something obvious?

Hi Raebo, I would add an immersion blender and mini waffle maker (for chaffles).

My weird little 13yo got a mini waffle maker for her birthday so that is perfect.. lol. Immersion blender makes a lot of sense and I wanted one for years!
Thank you!

I used (and still use) my blender and food scale all the time. I've never used an air fryer and rarely use sieves.

I agree with the small dishes - I bought ramekins in different sizes so I could "eyeball" portions easier. Of course, I could have measured things as well (and some things I DID measure), but sometimes it was easier to spoon things into a 4 oz ramekin, or an 8 oz ramekin, or whatever, since that would have been pretty close (if not exact). Plus then I could just eat whatever it was directly from the ramekin. I also bought baby spoons and still use them to this day - mostly to eat yogurt with. I don't know why, but I love them!

Definitely a blender and small dishes (so it looks like your portions are bigger than they really are). I had both of those before surgery so didn't need to buy anything new. (I have no idea what an immersion blender is.) And I'll be honest, I've never weighed my food. I could get an idea of how many ounces foods were based on my measuring cups--and after a while I had a sense of how big my portions should be.

As those who have read my posts along the way, I'm not much of a cook and had no creativity in terms of my diet during the weight loss phase. I just threw stuff i the blender or mashed it with a fork during the soft food phase. Everyone does this differently, but for me it needed to be simple. I didn't (and still don't) have the patience to weigh my food.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
