Balancing Weight Loss With Working Out

Recommended Posts

My surgeon cleared me yesterday to start working out. I went ahead and got my 10000 steps and did some squats, jumps, and knee highs. Nothing too strenuous. I also upped my Water a bit. Today I gained almost a pound. I just finished a stall so this is a bit stressful. My question is will this even out or do I need to be doing something extra?

Muscles retain Water after a good workout! It's totally normal for the scale to go up! Just means you did a great job working those muscles!

Thank you for the reassurance. We will see what tomorrow brings I guess.

You're doing great! Being active is a good thing. You didn't really gain a pound. It takes 3500 excess calories to gain a pound, and I know you're not eating that much in a day 6 weeks out from surgery. Your weight can fluctuate by more than a pound just over the course of a day, so you have nothing to worry about. It's most likely due to Water retention. Keep the faith and stick with your plan, and I promise you will continue to lose weight.

I have been exercising (gentle walking) since my first week post-op with increasing intensity. My weight loss has been great. I don’t stress about the odd pound gain here and there, because at the end of the month, I am still losing weight. Exercise will help your health and the way your body looks as you lose weight.

Good luck! 😊

Don't freak out. Your body needs time to adjust to your new routine and your muscles soaked up the Water. Keep up the good work!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
