I just had gastric sleeve December 15th . So far so good. My only issue is I’m hungry and it’s the holidays. When can I eat? I’m depressed for texture in my mouth anything soft. I’m tired of Protein Shakes and broth. I don’t like yogurt, cottage cheese or Jello. It’s been 9 days. Can I have eggs, soft fish?

Your surgeon or dietician didn't give you post op food plan? Have they given you the go ahead for soft foods?

While the post op food plans do vary typically there seems to be a clear liquid stage (maybe up to three days), then a two week full liquid stage, then a pureed food stage (maybe a week or two), then a soft food stage (another week or two)....all this depends on the surgeon, dietician, how well someone is tolerating the various stages.

Maybe time to check in with your surgeon / dietician see if you can progress through the stages...bearing in mind your stomach is healing right now.

What is you surgeon's nutrition guideline? For my surgeon it was 1 week liquid, 1 week puree, 2 weeks soft food, and then modified general diet (some things we were told not to eat until further out)

check with your clinic. I remember being able to have soft fish (like tuna) fairly quickly, but not when I was two weeks out. I think I was more like a month out when I could have that. Don't let the holidays be your excuse to eat - (in fact, I try not to make that an excuse to eat even now, at over five years out). Yes - you'll be really restricted this year, but this won't last forever. The second time around, I was able to enjoy more of what everyone else was eating (just in smaller portions than before). I know it's tough the first time around since you're so restricted (esp the first month or two post-surgery), but just hang tight!!

What did your surgeon tell you? I was on liquids for 3 weeks. Most people are on them for 2 weeks. You don't want to rush anything. For texture, grab a sugar-free popsicle.

In early week 2, I would strain all of the solids out of a can of Campbells chicken Noodle Soup. No problem, just broth. Next day, I put the whole can into a Magic Bullet blender, added half a can of Water and pureed the crap out of it. Finished about half and was smiling. The NEXT day, I upped my game to Campbell's cream of chicken and mushroom with half a can of Lactaid. Closest thing to solid food I could tolerate and it satisfied my solid food craving. At the end of the second week, I diced up a chicken tenderloin and added it to the cream of Soup mix. Although I only ate a few ounces, it was Nirvana. I told my Doc during my nutrition class yesterday and he had no issues with it. Between that and the Popsicles, the first 3 weeks went by pretty smooth.

My surgeon does 1 week post op Clear Liquids (currently on day 2), then purées and full liquids until month 2. Then month 2-3 soft foods, then 3 is modified regular.

I’d kill for a Protein Shake right about now. Tomorrow morning makes day 3 and I’ve had nothing but Water, and a couple sips of Gatorade zero.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
