Keeping food warm/cold

I'm still pre-op, on my pre-op diet currently, and I'm trying to practice habits I'll need for after (drinking Water in sips instead of gulps is the hardest. I love water and am a gulper). One is eating food very slowly, with pauses... Thing is, stuff gets either cold if it's a hot food, or warm if it's a cold food. I dunno about you, but cold scrambled eggs are gross to me, for example.

What are the best ways you've found to combat this issue?

I don't want to sound condescending, but how about a microwave? Also, the thing I had to get used to after surgery was chewing each bite 20* times. The old me would chew 4 or 5 times then swallow. I did that about two weeks out while eating a piece of chicken and it was the only time I vomited since the surgery. Make sure you chew up everything to excess.

I didn't take it as condescending, but nuking something repeatedly would... not be good 😁

I was thinking more like small warming bowls, or insulated plates or something.

Yes... This is what I was going for. I wonder if that would work well... I'll have to look into it. Thanks! Wonder if anyone has any food-warning experience with them...

I got a coffee mug warmer, so it has two heat settings on it. I have small, appetizer sized plates and while I'm eating, if it's something warm, I set it on there. If it's something cold (if I'm home), I'll usually take half and leave it in the fridge/freezer if possible to keep it cold. Just be aware if you use the mug warmer, leave it on low or you may end up slightly burning your food lol. It was a life lesson.

Fabulous! I'm guessing plastic plates would be a no for those LOL (I'm just being funny... I don't have plastic plates.) Thanks for that idea!!

Honestly, it used to take me soooooo long to eat a meal that I eventually just got used to eating lukewarm/cold food.

I'm two years out, and even now I'll just eat leftovers straight from the fridge.

But if this not for you, there are mini crock pots you could use (or the aforementioned mug warmer). Also, you could try to eat out of insulated bowls?

I usually reheat my food in the microwave at least once during a meal. I also try to cover my food between bites (either with a lid or plate on top of a bowl, or an inverted bowl over a plate).

      Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
      I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

      Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

      Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
