I am 4 months out and I starve daily. Ive tried upping Protein and every other trick everyone has given but no change. Up until today I’ve steadily lost (from 232-173) but for a month I’ve been the same weight and today I find I’ve gained two pounds! Wtf. VSG on 6/8/20.

First, congrats on your weight loss so far. 60lbs - whoo hoo.

But what do you mean by you starve daily? Are you not eating or feel like you’re not eating much?

Are you following your plan, meeting your Protein goals, your fluid goals? Are you tracking your calories & logging your food? Have you spoken to your dietician?

Sorry for all the questions. Just seeking a clearer understanding.

I still wasn’t eating much at 4 months. Couldn’t get through an egg or 1/3 cup porridge at Breakfast, barely eat 2.5oz of chicken at lunch (no vege or salad).

I can gain or lose 1/2kg in a day if I’m retaining Fluid or am constipated.

Arabesque there is only room for one curmudgeons around here. ;)

Now, what am I supposed to say when you've hit all my standard stuff...

OH, I got it.

trinityjacobs get rid of the scale. It will lie to you. If you are on plan, you don't need a number on a scale. Look how you feel now about it.

Worse, scales sometimes tell the truth. In this case it MAY be telling you that you are not staying on plan.

Put the scale away, you can weigh at your Docs.

Good luck,

Tek

By starve daily I mean I am hungry all the time. Yes I hit all goals with no issues. I weigh daily because I’m supposed to according to my doctor. Weight fluctuations aren’t an issue. I have never gained anything this entire process so that’s why I’m concerned. I’m also supposed to reach my goal weight before December according to him. I no longer meet with a dietitian or the doctor. Our program stops following us unless there’s an issue after 3 months. So they said follow my binder and hit Protein and Water goals. I can tolerate food and drink more than what you had listed. I stop myself from overeating because of this.

I'd go back to your surgeon, even though their normal process is to end follow up at 3 months. It's not uncommon to get stuck at a certain weight for a month and a 2 pound gain may just be normal fluctuation, so neither of those seems like a major problem. But if you're hungry all the time and you don't feel much restriction in your tummy, that seems worth talking about.

Unfortunately I no longer work there so I don’t have the insurance to have another appt with him regardless. All I get told is that the hunger returns and that’s why I conditioned myself to not eat all the time and not eat junk beforehand. And the info I get from the vsg groups I’m in say up my Protein and Water. 🤦🏼‍♀️

Oh wow your program stops after three months? I know things are different in the States but I’m surprised they don’t provide support for longer especially when this is a long journey. No wonder you have these concerns.

We pay for our own private health insurance in Australia though we also have the government provided Medicare which basically covers visits to the doctor but not procedures. They never cover the cost of everything (I was out of pocket for about 80% of my surgery) but at least they don’t say they won’t support you any longer. We also have a public hospital system but the waiting lists are quite lengthy.

I’m still seeing my surgeon’s team in fact I have an appointment on Tuesday. Though I don’t see my dietician anymore she’s there if I need her. I agree with Jaelzion about needing to go back to see your surgeon or dietician. Is there any way to go back even without insurance?

I could make an appt with the main surgeon but it would cost me out of pocket upfront and being unemployed and him being a “specialist” at the moment that would be hard. However I posted in a few Facebook groups and they said this is normal. That stalling, gaining then losing again is just a part of it. I was also advised by someone to do a liquid diet like my pre op diet for a couple weeks to kickstart it again.

However I think my program is that short because it takes six months of classes to get the surgery to begin with. You meet with the surgeon, dietitian, psychiatrist, every month and get a binder of exact instructions for every day. So you should be well prepared before surgery day then your follow up after would cover questions.. granted that’s in a perfect senario

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
