Something is wrong with Christmas

Recommended Posts

Aren't you believers supposed to be on your knees praying for me instead of slamming insults and sarcasm back at me? Yeah, I thought so. Want to borrow a rosary? Hypocrisy is what's wrong with Christmas.

The Angry Elf

You know, people like you make the rest of us non believers look bad.

I do believe you explained earlier that nobody has a problem with your bitter, nasty, attitude. Does this thread demonstrate otherwise?

Since you *claim* to be here to absorb information, why aren't you asking questions about banding vs. slinging insults to everyone around you? The attitude I see is like a little monkey that escaped from a cage after being poked with a pointy thing on the end of a stick too many times.

However, one would think you'd have the info you are supposedly "absorbing" considering you also claim to have sat with 50 people holding their hands due to slips and erosion. You claim you have been researching banding for 5 or more years. You come off as though you know everything anyway so really, why are you here?

Did you run out of people in real time to listen to you and be your targets of bitterness, cranky attitudes, hate, slams, and assorted insults?

Do you ever get the feeling that you haven't gotten off to a great start this time around LBT?

The Angry Elf

I have't been here on LBT that long, but MAN every thread I have read in the last 2 days, you have come across as one angry individual.

Your angst / pain is palpable, to a point that I suggest Medical Intervention. In all due respect, you appear to be seeking something on this board, with that which is lacking in your life. To lump many threads all in one (sorry) , This Christian, Pro Life, Liberal Texan - suggests that if you wish to dispel your hardships of the past - you also should be open to the loveliness of this season, if you insist on posting on that type of thread - NO matter your religious preference.

I will pray for you - and will send a rosary your way if that helps.

Christmas is MORE than a religious event , to be vulnerable and open your heart / life to others makes you a better person than hiding behind words, and anger - My best to you, Angry Elf...

It took a couple decades for me to forgive and find peace within myself and even have a beer with Dear Ol Dad, but then along comes Christmas (every October) to remind millions of us about how painful and cruel life often is and of the family we never had. It helps us wonder what it must be like to have a mother's love, a sister's friendship, or a father's strong hand to guide us.

Selfish? Selfish is shoving all the happy family crap into the face of countless humans that are clueless to what Christmas means to the privilege. Christmas is a time to reflect back on sitting alone on the curb watching other kids ride shiny new bikes and play with new Barbies while wondering what all those amazing smells were coming out of homes, and which house I might be able to steal a tortilla from.

Anyone who has a cursory understanding of psychology would ascertain that you have not forgiven anyone for anything to this day. Keep in mind that most of us don’t really know each other or what we may have gone through in our own childhood and/or adulthood. Everyone has difficult times that are hard to overcome, but that doesn’t mean that you have to drip with negativity. Despite my own life-long “issues,” I made a conscious choice to become resilient and cling to an optimistic viewpoint as much as I can. If life sucked when you were a kid, start your own traditions now and you'll create some beautiful memories to replace the bitter ones.

Bitter? Hardly, I laugh at fools who Celebrate a pregnant virgin. Santa Clause, Easter Bunny, aliens, pregnant virgins. It's obvious why the National Enquirer stays in business when grown ups forget to grow up. Can people actually say "pregnant virgin" without laughing? If you don't want negative people spitting on your Christmas post, why not change the title to something more festive that attracts only those who care to spread Christmas joy? The "controversy welcome" sign was on the opened door- I just wandered in looking for liquor.

:focus: Unless I briefly slipped into The Twilight Zone, this thread was posted in the Lapband Talk Lounge, NOT in Rants and Raves, right? The topic here (for anyone who may have blacked out for a brief moment) is:

Something is wrong with Christmas when people.....and you know who you are....complain about it. The true sprit of Christmas is giving, giving to your loved ones, giving to even people you dont know. People who really need your help. If someone is being greedy, Show them, Teach them how to help those who really need help. If done right, this could be a life time memory. A memory of what Christmas is.

The only part of your posts that is annoying is that you "laugh at fools who...". I just don't understand people who set themselves so far above others that they can judge everyone. Do your own thing, believe what you want, but the judgmental laughing at people who don't share your beliefs, whatever they are, is just plain rude.
Very well put, Chelle! Again, for those who have trouble navigating on the LBT forum, this ISN’T Rants and Raves!

Without even getting into the whole "controversial" commercial/religious aspect of the holiday season because this isn't a debate, I have to say that my favorite thing about this time of year is that I actually get enough time off that I am able to easily travel home to visit my siblings and their families. I live about 700 miles away from them. We always have such a good time when we get together--they are SO funny! It's good for what ails you! :biggrin1:

:focus: I find the whole gift giving scenario HIGHLY STRESSFUL and could deal if there were no gift giving at all. (My DH and I actually don't do gift exchange)

LIke I said, don't need a holiday to spend time with my family , we do it year round, but there is just something about a nice fire and the decorated tree, egg nog and all that puts you in a comfy, cozy mood.

Exactly! My siblings and I haven't exchanged gifts for decades--to be honest, there are way too many of us in all when you add up the children, their spouses, and their kids!

Once in a while, we do a "Yankee swap" where everyone brings one gift and we draw tickets. That's a lot of fun. I usually bring some bizarre item that everyone wants to get!

Usually when we get together though, it's all about visiting and not at all about gifts. I'm hoping it'll be nice and snowy when we go to visit this year!

We have what we call an ornament exchange at our "get together" for my dad's side of the family. Everyone brings an ornament and pulls a number. The person with number one begins by picking an ornament out of the pile and unwrapping it. The next in line can choose to "steal" the ornament or pick one from the pile to unwrap. If stolen, number one unwraps another...and this continues. An ornament can be "stolen" three times and is then considered "frozen" and inelligible to be taken. It's absolutely hilarious. The first year everyone showed up with tiny ornaments but it's so hilarious seeing grown adults "fight" over ornaments and entice their children to "steal" someones for their gain that the "ornaments" have become larger. Anything is game now. Large light up deer for the front yard, extravagent ornaments. IT IS A BALL!

I can't help but notice that, with all the talk of how Christmas is about being loving and kind, this thread seems to be largely about being Bitter towards Tits for being Bitter. (Projection anyone?)

Again, if it's so easy, can we do it? I expect Tits to not be bitter, yet I am bitter towards Tits? I need to keep my own side of the street clean (bitter free) before I point the finger at someone else, and believe me, THAT is a full time job. We are all just doing our best.

I don't think you were insulted, you insulted others and others defended themselves, pray for you? didn't do it yesterday when I was in a hurry, but I will do it today, believe it or not...I know you don't want it, but I'll do it anyways....

Hypocrisy during Christmas or any other time of the year is very real in people, but should that matter? as long as you know you are not being hypocrit, we should be ok, and you don't have to be a believer to enjoy the holidays either... did you read other posts?;)

You have a good point, however, I think that most people are trying either to defend themselves or explain their points to her, which I think it's only human... I guarantee you that "I" am not bitter towards her, I was hurt at some of her comments, I may have been defensive as well, but I'm not bitter, in fact, I believe that she has had a very tough life and she does have reasons to feel the way she does, and I would LOVE for her to feel better and more positive, because I know that ultimately it would be better for her, and I'm saying this because I have also had a tough life myself and I know how it affects you, and not until I let go and tried to live in the present and forgave and became a more positive person I was able to feel better and have a better life, so but no bitterness from me.wink.gif

Well said, Elena. You express yourself so beautifully. My friend Byron Katie, has a saying that really resonates with me, and it is:

DEFENSE IS THE FIRST ACT OF WAR.

I send you love and joy on this holiday and everyday.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
