I’m 5 weeks post op VSG and I’m curious about how many calories per day I should be eating? My plan says 70-80 grams of Protein but doesn’t mention calories. Any advice is much appreciated! 😊

At only five weeks post op, you can't eat that much due to the restriction. That's why you only have a Protein target. You are likely on a very low calorie diet, but it will depend on what you can squeeze in before you feel full. I don't think I would have been able to eat 600 calories in the first few months. I wouldn't worry about calories too much, just your protein targets.

There is no calorie goal at this point. You are literally just trying to get in that Protein before anything else. :)

most of us were several months out before we started counting calories. You're not physically going to be able to take in enough calories this soon after surgery to worry about it. Just focus on your Fluid and Protein goals for now.

Don't worry about it too much. But at that point, I was eating ~800 calories a day. Now I'm 5 months out and am eating 1000-1400 calories a day and still losing at about 1.5 lbs a week.

My doctor told me 70 grams Protein, 35 grams carbs, 700 calories

In the first 3 months, I wasn't given a specific calorie count, just portion size guidelines and macro distribution. It was supposed to be 50% low carb veggies, 25% Protein, 25% starches with meals being 1/2 to 1 cup depending on how far along I was.

With that said, I chose to do my own thing (and told my team so...and they had no real objections): I prioritized protein and went ultra-low carb.

Weeks 1-2 (400 cals a WEEK...this was not on purpose, it just happened this way).

Weeks 2-4 (300-400 / day)

Months 2-4 (500-600 / day)

Months 5-7 (600-800 / day)

...and tried to stay below 25g NET carbs day (I didn't count fibre nor sugar alcohols in my official carb count)

I'm just over 4 weeks post-op and getting between 800-1000 per day. I too focus more on the Protein and just eating very small portions of balanced meals.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
