Hello Y'all!

Well, I sure do hope y'all had a great Christmas. We had a good one! I am off work today, I have been running around to some of the smaller stores for some bargains, but then I had to take my car back in for work so now I am stuck w/o a car for a while. They said they did some work on it and it wasn't done. Hmmmmm, now they are going to do it right!

It is an overcast and some rain day here today. I don't mind at all, I just need to get a few more chores done and then I want to get some R&R before returning back to work tomorrow. I need to clean up a little from yesterday and do a load or two of laundry.

Where is everyone?

Thanks for all the beautiful cards/pictures! I love getting them!

Later!

Hi all, I forgot to send out my cards. They are on the passenger seat of my car....duh!!

Christmas was calm and really nice around my house. We got up around 8 and I put Breakfast in the oven. (a white castle and egg deal) and we opened presents. Then after breakfast Dave and I did some work in Abi's new room. Part of her gift was redecorating her room into a rock star theme. It looks great once christmas gifts are all put away I will posts some pictures of the finished product. Then my parents came over and we cooked steaks on the grill. I did some boiled shrimp in beer and hot sauce, think spicy shrimp coctail. My mom made a huge salad and cheesey rice. I also had green Beans and cressent rolls. Nothing huge, but a very good meal. When dinner was over the adults opened gifts and then we had a vanilla custard with cherries on top. We finished out the day by going to my sisters house and playing games for a few hours. All in all it was a great day.

I will be around a bit more in the next 2 weeks as I have some time off work for the Holidays. Love to you all, Mandy

Hi everyone---we too survived Christmas. Inlaws and all!!! There were a few points I wondered---glad now I held my tongue!!!

It is bitterly cold here! Has not been above freezing today. Kinsey has made me nuts, she wants to go out and ride her new battery powered 4 wheeler, but has had to settle for doing so indoors! Too cold for me!

I loved getting the cards from all of you---and even if Mandy's stayed in the car, I knew she was thinkin' bout us all!!!

I am off to dinner with Rick and our son and his family --hoping to heavens my grandson behaves! Son leaves tomorrow for minimally 3 weeks in ND.

They just pulled up, so I have to cut this short---hugs all around!!

Kat

Sherry, I didn't notice the tree at all in the pic. I was so smitten with those pups. Abi took the picture and it's in her "secret place" in her room. That is the place where she can put stuff that will not be tossed during room clean up days. About once a week or so I go into her room with a trash bag and go on a tossing spree. She and I have a deal that the stuff in that drawer will not be touched. That is where the dog picture went. I will have to ask her about the background, as I don't think she noticed it either. ~Mandy

Hi Everyone,

Is there room here for another Eileen? Rare that I run into someone else with my name.

I was banded on 12/18. Doing ok so far. I'm on full liquids for another week or so. I started getting hungry a few days ago, which has made sticking to this more challenging. But I'm doing it. And it's nice to see the feedback on the scale. Although, my jeans still fit the same, which I wonder about. I'd think 13 lbs or so would make a difference. Maybe I was squeezing in to them more than I remember.

Anyway, I'm the mother of 2, ages 8 and 2, in Somerset County. I am a casual knitter and stay at home mom. I enjoy reading (in my five free minutes a day  ) I joined Curves a month ago, and am actually looking forward to when I'll be able to go back.

Do you know of a lap band support group in Somerset County? My doc's office has one, but it's a good 30-40 minute drive.

I look forward to getting to know you all!

There is always room for a new bandster. Be aware that most of us are not really from NJ. I am from just outside of Chicago and we have people from Texas, South Carolina, NM and MI, did I miss anyone? maybe but the girls here know I love them all. You have stumbled into the best group on lapbandtalk, bar none.

I am getting ready to turn 30, I have a special needs 6 year old daughter and I'm working on getting a teaching degree. I was banded July 2005, and love my band almost all the time. It was a great decision and I'm glad I did it. I have about 25 or 30 more pounds to go, and I feel great. Again, welcome feel free to kick your feet up and stay with us. ~Mandy

Hi Eileen (reillye), Glad to have you join us. This group is the greatest group of folks around! I'm from Williamsburg Virginia. Got banded on Halloween, and these gals have been a huge help.

Pat, we keep missing each other! Miss you. Haven't talked to you in soooooo long!

Jessica your weight loss has been great! Your'e gonna be such a hottie by the time you go to the DR! BTW, where are you gong to be staying there? I've never been there, but have been thinking about it.

Kat, you gave me far too much credit!!!!! I don't have the sense to stop when those first bites are giving me troubles! lol! I must think that the uncomfortable feeling in my chest won't be impacted by yet another bite!!!!!!!! But then Thank goodness for the band!

Betty, Eileen, Mandy, Cindy, Ann, and all...... Hope you are all well and having a great holiday!!!!!!!!!!

Hi everyone!

Welcome, Eileen 2! I'm actually one of the Texas gals, and have been hanging around this place for a couple of years now. It's a great little place to visit and get and give support. These are some great ladies here!

Sounds like everyone still has their heads above Water after Christmas; we had a very nice day. The family came here to open presents, then everyone went their own way and we had a relaxing rest of the day sorting out our gifts and putting them to use or where they belonged or what have you.

Last night was the Trans Siberian Orchestra concert...it was great!

Today we're cleaning out some closets. Lots of fun!

Thanks to everyone for the cards...I always love getting them!

Hugs to all,

Cindy

Diane, I bought closet organizers the day after Thanksgiving, but they are still in the box, waiting to be installed. That is one of my big projects before I go back to work, I have one more week off. Tonight I bought tile for my kitchen backsplash. I'm doing a southwest theme. (Cindy, think Coronado Springs) I painted the walls a cool orange last night and the back splash is going to be blue, green and creme. I can't wait. I am also putting in a blue chair rail, and the trim is all royal blue. My friends keep saying it's a Chicago bears kitchen, but's it's a Disney kitchen.

I spent the day with family so I need a drink and then it's off to bed for me. Night all, Mandy

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
