Ok why does this come up! You need to lead a balanced diet with proper foods. You are a WLS surgery patient Not a freakin Cave Man! You are starting a Journey.

You are going to get Rocked on her as others help you. You need to get a Nutritional Plan Not some Fad Diet.

Get on the journey bet get prepared. Search here for WLS meal plans

Sorry to be so brash but you need to get organized the surgery is a Tool you have to set up and run the shop

I was told not to do Keto because it has too much fat in those diets... it messes up your system.

There are a lot of reasons to avoid the Keto fad. You are already going to be in a keto like state after surgery. As you break down the fat so quickly, you will produce lots of ketones. Fat malabsorption is not unusual after WLS. Eating even more fat is not going to be helpful and a lot of it will just pass through. Fat is not going to give you the nutrition you need in the way of Vitamins, minerals, and phytonurtients. It's basically just a lot of calories that you don't need and most likely can't even utilize. Consuming a lot of meat is not even healthy and contributes to a host of other health problems down the road. After WLS, you have 3 immediate goals: Water, Protein, and vitamins. As the diet advances, it is still water, protein, and vitamins, but in the form of more whole foods. Getting in a lot of fruits, greens, veggies is the best way to get phytonutrients and vitamins for lifetime health. Every bite you take after WLS should be as nutrient dense as possible and have a purpose for promoting your lifelong health. HIgh meat and high fat does not do that.

Ok so I’m not new to this. I am 10 months post op and have for some reason stopped losing weight no matter what I do (this is for over a month already) I realized that the way I’m eating is helping me maintain but I still need to lose about 30-40 lbs so I want to try keto- not for my whole life- just to do a 60 day thing or something just to get my body moving again. This is not a lifestyle change or anything like that....

you obviously have no understanding of Keto, most wls patients are meant to do low carb/keto as it is carbs that help you put on weight via gluconeogenesis in the liver when you have insulin resistance from a diet too high in carbs. it is not a fad.

@Riva_G.I do know other DSers who do it. From what I understand it’s low carb. As long as you get tons of Protein and fats it seems to be DS friendly.

IF IF IF you can handle the fats. Many post op patients cannot. And to state again, fat is simply a lot of empty calories (the most densely caloric food there is) that does not provide nutritional value. If you are getting so many calories from fat, you are sacrificing the benefit of other foods that are much more nutritionally dense.

Isn’t the fat in Keto meant to make you feel full for longer? Is it that our bodies can’t digest fat now, or that the fat is extra calories and possible weight gain?

I actually have less issues when I am on low carbs. I am really gassy since the surgery. The days that I eat less carbs I don’t have that issue. As far as high calories, I’m not absorbing a lot of that fat. I’ve started keto... for those who are interested I’ll keep you updated. Again, this is not a lifestyle thing. I got an ok from a PA I know, so here I go...

If you’re a DSer this makes a good deal of sense. (I’m a traditional DSer who had my surgery in 2005). Carbs give us more gas and stool. That’s why I almost only eat them at home.

As as we don’t count calories; fats and Proteins are very important for us. A minimum of 100gr/day Protein (I usually get over 125) and a good amount of fats to help ‘grease the wheels’, so to speak. Since we absorb much less than an average person or other WLS patient we have to eat it a bit differently.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
