Please help— has anyone found out they are allergic to the staples used in gastric sleeve? I am one week post op and the rash/ hives on my stomach are crazy itchy and red. And getting worse. I’m off all meds as of three days ago. Benadryl and topical creams aren’t helping much. Any fellow rash peeps? What was your experience?

I didn't get a rash from my bypass - but I did for my second plastic surgery (first plastic surgery I did not). I was having a reaction to the surgical glue or tape that they used - it's evidently not uncommon.

I was talking to my veterinarian about this. She said it sometimes takes two or three exposures before your body starts reacting to something, so that might explain it in my case (of course, your can react during the first exposure, too - like yours did)

anyway, I contacted my plastic surgeon about it, and he put me on steroids for about 10 days to suppress the reaction - and then after that he removed the tape (he couldn't remove it right away because the incisions were still healing). So ask your surgeon - they may put you on something to suppress the allergic reaction.

I am 11 weeks post op. I got a rash on my abdominal area a few days after surgery and I still have it!!! I’ve tried hydrocortisone and all kinds of cream and nothing has helped. I didn’t think about it having to do with surgery. I guess talking to the surgeon would be the best idea.

I was happy to find this thread because I developed a rash on my abdomen 1 week post op. It started out as red, raised, and extremely itchy. It covered the entirety of my lower abdomen, around the incisions and the whole are between them. I took Benadryl 25mg twice and day and put hydrocortisone cream on it for a week. It's almost completely gone now and no longer itches. I showed it to my surgeon today and he said he wasn't worried about it. He didn't say what caused it, but it seems somewhat common from the research I did. Best of luck to any fellow itchy folks... hopefully it resolves like mine has!

Same here! It started about 2 weeks post op and finally resolve this week (4 week post op) I had the surgical glue, and yes it seemed I had a reaction to it. The incisions themselves were not itchy, just around them were the glue was and then most of my stomach would get hives and rash for about 2 weeks. It was itchy hell. I spoke to the doc and they said to take benedryl. They did not seem concerned either. I just hope I am not allergic to the surgical glue forever now....if I ever do plastics, I will make sure I tell them about the rash 😮😖

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
