Vitamins and Protein covered by insurance?

Recommended Posts

Has anyone with Tricare Prime (East) had any luck with getting their Protein and Vitamins covered by insurance? The website states they will cover medically necessary issues, but was curious to know if anyone has actually been able to get it. TIA

I don't have Tricare, so don't know the specifics on that insurance, but if your RX plan will pay for Nascobal (which is prescription B12), you can get it from Nutrition Direct, and they will toss in all of your other Vitamins for free. They ship out everything monthly. It's great!

Thanks so much, I will get on that tomorrow!

most insurance companies won't, but if you have a flexible spending account, I've known people who've gotten Vitamins covered if they have a prescription for them - which your bariatric clinic might be willing to do. Vitamins have to be considered medically necessary to be eligible under FSA - and in our case, they kinda are. I don't know if anyone's ever gotten Protein covered under FSA, though (maybe they have - but if so, I haven't heard..)

although you might want to check first - the rules on FSA's can change from year to year (that is, if you even have an FSA...)

P.S. i Just checked the FSA rules for 2020. It says vitamins may be covered if you have a Letter of Medical Necessity and a prescription. But again, this is for an FSA or an HSA. Having regular health insurance cover it would be unusual, but you never know. It'd be worth it to ask them.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
