Struggling 7 weeks out

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I am about 7 weeks post RNY. For the last week and a half I’ve been struggling with extreme nausea and on and off vomiting. I can’t get many fluids down. I was averaging about 40oz before the last week. I was sent into the infusion center to get two liters of fluids and they are encouraging me to go again. I’m obviously no where near my Protein intake either.

My medical team has given me Zofran, phenergan, and the scopolamine patch. The phenergan puts the nausea at bay, but I still can’t get much down. I also went back to Clear Liquids the last couple of days. I’m so weak with not being able to get fluids/protein.

I’m just wondering if anyone else has struggled with this, and how you got through it? My medical team says that I “just need to get over the hump and I’ll feel better soon.” I hope that it happens soon because I’m really struggling!

is it happening mostly right after you eat or drink? If so, it could be a stricture. If not, I'm not sure - although I'm sure they would have thought of that right away if you were doing it mostly after you eat/drink.

It’s mostly just all the time. The nausea is too intense that I haven’t been able to eat/drink. When I do get anything down I usually will vomit afterwards.

Hi Caityjean I just wanted to let you know that I went through the same exact thing. It got really bad for me and I was terrified and but after a long while I’m fine now and you will be fine too. Hang in there because the only thing that really helps is time. Stick to the liquids and slowly work your way up. I know how hard it is feel free to reach out to me. You will get through this!! :)

Thanks so much, readysetsew! It’s nice to hear that others have been through the same thing and pulled through and got to feeling better.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
