I got a BAD stall at three weeks that lasted about two weeks. Stick with your plan and the scale will start moving again, I promise!

After dieting for years and going through the gastric sleeve 9 years ago, I can relate to your questions. This is what I was told over and over.

It is normal to go through a stall, especially not long after surgery. Your body is going through some massive changes and is still dealing with anesthesia from the surgery.

Just breath, give yourself grace and keep working the process. Your body will eventually come around.

You've got this. I will be praying for you!

My surgery was February 3rd and I've been stalled the last 2 weeks. I was a revision so I was expecting a slow loss but I was not expecting to be stalled for 2 weeks when I'm only eating about 800-850 calories a day. My carbs are low, fat is low and Protein is where it should be. It's frustrating but I do measure and I have lost inches those 2 weeks. I think we just gotta hang in there and the scale will start moving again.

I want to weigh in here. Pun intended. :) I am new to the bypass but had a sleeve done in 2013 so I know a lot more than a typical newbie. There is a thing I lovingly refer to as “the dreaded 3 week stall”. It happens to almost everyone. It starts at 3 weeks and can last one or a few weeks. It might feel like a big deal but it just happens. It’s because of the shock to your system, eating so few calories, starvation mode, blah blah blah. I’m sure you have all heard that stuff before. IT WILL PASS! Just keep doing what you’re doing and one day you will wake up and like 6lbs will be gone. No worries. It’s all good. Keep up the good work!! :)

But I've seen alot of people lost 100 or more in a year time

Yes, but that depends on a lot of factors - often the more overweight a person is, the faster their weight loss will be post-op. Men lose weight a lot faster than women. And genetics plays a role too - some people are naturally inclined to lose weight faster after surgery than others. You can't compare yourself to other people - your body is your own, and it will lose weight on its own schedule. As for stalls, sometimes moving from one food stage to another will cause a short stall, but it's just your body adjusting. If you stick to your macros (protein, calories, water) and get some exercise in, the weight loss should come, however slowly.

Also - the scale is not the only measure of success. Take your measurements - now, today. Then, every week, or two weeks, or month (just be regular about it), take your measurements again. I do this on the first of every month and it's very telling. I had the sleeve done 3 years ago, and bypass 3.5 weeks ago, and I know that the body will be changing, losing weight, even if it doesn't show it on the scale. Try smaller clothes - you'd be surprised what fits you now. I've been shocked by being able to go down not one size, but two or more in less than a month.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
