Second thoughts

Recommended Posts

Hello. Im new to the group. Im 4 days away from surgery and im starting to get cold feet. I lost almost 30lbs and i keep thinking to myself i did that i can do the rest without surgery. I did my research and i know what I'm about to do is life changing and that's the scary part. Im on my 2 wk preop(during the holidays mind you) and i already see how different my social life will be😥

I think second thoughts are normal and expected at some stage preop. How much do you need to lose? 30 pounds is a terrific start. It is really hard but not impossible to lose a significant amount of weight and keep it off without surgery. I'd like to encourage you to keep going and not have cold feet. I have lost 101 pounds toral, and about 85 pounds in 9 months post bypass. I am cured of diabetes and high blood pressure and can do many things I was too heavy to do before. This is the best decision I ever made! Best wishes to you!

Thank you. I currently also have hbp and a heart condition that is being aggravated by my weight. I don't "need" to lose more for surgery but i may because i have 3 days left on my pre op diet. Im just really nervous mainly because i don't want to let myself down if i slip up after.

I'm also having surgery on 12/31. But for a gastric bypass. Hopefully it will be uneventful and you will heal quickly. I've been on a liquid diet since the 24th. Seeing my family eat while I had chicken broth really sucked. Only thing I wished different is being able to talk my surgeon into a Dilatatal switch instead of a Gastric bypass. He said I didn't weigh enough. Long term results are better. It's going to suck around holidays but better than having weight related health problems. Hang in there. I have lost 57lbs since July.

Its very normal to have second thoughts i did right up until i was laying on the operating table i was crying and scared as hell...the thing i remember was the anesthesiologist saying im giving her a dose of Xanax as well and i woke up in the recovery room needing to urinate i was surprised at how great i was able to walk had pain but it was way less than when i had my gallbladder removed i was a ice eating hall walking fool that whole night and the next morning until noon when they discharged me

I am also scheduled for surgery on the 31st and have had second thoughts especially when I saw everyone eating all the things I couldn't and won't be able to for a long time. I just keep reminding myself that statistically there's pretty much no chance of losing and then keeping the weight off without surgery. We're almost there don't give up!

You will be able to eat those foods again at some point. Once you lose the weight and are feeling great, you may choose to pass on the unhealthy stuff though.

It is perfectly normal to be feeling this way, it’s a lifestyle change not just surgery, but I guarantee you that you will feel soo much better once you are able to start going back to normal food in moderations. You have to remind yourself, you are in control of your body and what you put in it, yes it’s gonna be a struggle to get back to a new normal lifestyle for yourself but it’s going to be worth it to feel that much better about yourself, it’s a temporary sacrifice for a new wonderful life!

I had surgery Dec 18th at 10pm so basically on the 19th, I have struggled it hasn’t been a walk in the park but I was at 343 the day after surgery and now I’m at 325 in 9 days.. almost 20lbs. I had to have surgery due to my cancer, my oncologist won’t do my hysterectomy till I lose 80lbs but even through the hard time getting to my goal I have no regrets doing it, don’t think about the negative or scared of the what if’s, because the fact of the matter is there is more positives than negatives and there is more to be scared of not doing it and having other health issues because of the weight than to do it.. I’m here if you need to talk and good luck stay positive

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
