OMG Shin splints!

Recommended Posts

I have been walking on my treadmill this week and all of a sudden I have the worst shin splints! I didn't get them while walking outside. Anyone else have this problem and what did you do for it?

You are absolutely correct! It was at a 3% incline! Thanks for the advice!

How old are your shoes? I had issues (shin splints & sore knees) & bought new running shoes & haven’t had pain since. General wear & tear & the age of the shoe will result in the inner support breaking down.

I do need new shoes! I tend to wear mine until they are almost useless. Thanks, I hadn't thought of that!

Did you drink enough this week? Check your logs.

I had a severe shin splint problem after I took a winter break from running outside. Despite my diet being the same, and drinking the same, and loosing weight, I was killing myself with pain.

It turned out that, I *never* was drinking enough Water. As I lost weight over the winter, I also lost Water reserves associated with fat. My problem was that I needed to drink much more water than was I was dieting with.

Treadmills also engage different muscles than being outside. I forget the muscles specifically, when outside, you must give yourself forward movement. It might feel the same, but on a treadmill, you do not have to use those muscles as much and other other muscles get stressed more. That is the commonly speculated reason why treadmills seem harder. You might not have enough water to process the nutrients for the muscles being used more, or your pathways have not adjusted yet. Make sure you have enough water.

You may have a point. My first longer treadmill walk was on Monday and I only got in 58 oz that day. And there were two other days I didn't quiet make it to 60 oz. I agree that you use different muscles when on the treadmill vs walking outside. Today it will be nearly 60 degrees and I am going to go for a long walk! Thanks for your ideas!

Good shoes that fit your feet!

Compression socks or leggings, which will need to be replaced as you shrink. Ive completed a few half marathons in the last 18 months post VSG and these methods do not fail me!

I get shin splints as well. Sometimes doesn’t matter inside or outside. I bought 3 pairs of Jobst knee high compression stockings. The dress type, not nylons. They come in different colors and are not the really constricting compression socks. I have not suffered from shin splints since wearing them. Yea!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
