8 weeks from VSG surgery

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone, I am 8 weeks out from VSG surgery. I can eat normal. I work with a nutritionist but I dont see her until my 3 month follow. So I am a little confused how many calories should I be eating. My doctor said 800-1000 calories a day. My sister who is a nutritionist is saying that is not enough and I am depriving myself. I have very slow weight lost, like a pound a week. I dont know if I am doing something wrong. How many calories are you guys eating this far out? What does a day of food look like for me? Anything helps! Thank you!

Follow your teams advice and call/email them for clarity. Unless your sister works specifically with the bariatric community her advice will not be as accurate.

Good Luck 💚

800-1000 is pretty common for bariatric patients who are in the weight loss phase (some people eat even fewer - more like 600-800), but do whatever your bariatric team suggests. Yes it's low for a "normal" person, but you're doing it under medical supervision and are taking supplements. Once you hit goal and go into maintenance mode, your calorie intake will increase. I eat 1500-1700 now that I'm in maintenance (YMMV). But I was probably at 800-1000 when I was where you are....

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
