8weeks post op and need food ideas

Recommended Posts

Hi all! Well I’m slowly getting through this new phase in my life and becoming closer with Sleevie (my sleeve) everyday. Just need a little advice. I am about tired of Water because it tastes funny. I use to love water and now I can only drink about 8oz before it starts tasting funny. What type of juice can we have? Also as far as food it seems I can only tolerate ground beef and shrimp. I haven’t tried too much just yet. I don’t do Protein Shakes instead I eat my Protein. My go to meals now are eggs, bacon, mini meatloafs, and chip less nachos. Please I need more meal options. Thanks you. I wish I could have some fruit!

Do you make smoothies? This was my Breakfast for a long time around 8 weeks. A yummy recipe that is full of Protein and nutrients:

1 cup milk (I use soy, but your choice. Would not recommend almond milk cuz lower in protein)

1 heaping tablespoon plain Greek yogurt

Several green leaves from kale or spinach (you can also use frozen spinach leaves)

1 scoop Protein Powder

1/4 - 1/2 c. mixed frozen berries (or fresh)

1/4 banana

Some slices of fresh ginger if you like.

Whir it up in blender or Ninja or Magic Bullet.

I will also add some frozen prickly pear juice, or a small tangerine, or even some canned beets.

juice has a lot of sugar in it, but you can buy things like cranberry beverages that have something like 5% or 10% juice that are low in sugar and five calories. Ocean Spray makes them - as do one or two other companies. They'd be in the juice section of the store.

I also drink a lot of flavored waters, like Bai. And then there's Crystal Light...

what about Soup? i’m 2 months out and i basically live off of soup. i just get one with no Pasta and lots of veggies in it. gives you liquid and some food! this week i tried ritz crackers with it also. as far as drinking i had the same thing happen to me with the Water tasting funny and i started buying the crystal light ice tea and i can’t get enough of it! it tastes so good. do you have the problem where you can still only take like small sips or one gulp at a time before it feels like it’s coming back up? that’s my biggest problem when it comes to drinking. also i was very dehydrated and my doctor recommended the sugar free Powerade at least once a day to replenish some electrolytes. hope this helps and congrats on your surgery! it’s not easy but it’s getting easier!!

i'm confused ??? at 8 weeks out you can just about eat anything healthy that your tummy tolerates .protein first, vegetables second right??? I just don't eat straight out carbs like rice, Pasta and bread anything else just go for it … as long as the portions remain correct for you ...and you getting in your Protein and water without going over your calorie intake for you it's all good right? Please let me know if im not correct because i'm 8 weeks out...

Depends on the doctor. Mine is fine with me eating anything but very low fat and carbs

I like the Water flavoring products, Crystal Light and similar (Stur is my personal favorite). They're zero calorie or very close to it. I only put in about 1/4 of a full "serving" because I just want to lightly flavor the water, not make fruit punch. It helps me get 100-120 oz down per day.

Bone Broth w veggies and chicken thigh meat, warm tea, sf popsicles. At two months many of us still used one shake a day to get in required Protein. Grilled pork steak. Regular beef steak was too harsh, and I could not tolerate any lettuce until 9 months out - slimes. But spinach in a cheese omelet. Ground turkey was easier than ground beef for me. Soft baked fish

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
