Should I be worried or glad about really rapid weight loss?

Recommended Posts

I hate to ask this question because it seems so crazy, but...I am 6 months post gastric bypass and had been losing at what seemed a "normal" rate. Then I upped my calories to 1000 to 1100 a day and now I'm losing really fast. I've lost over 8 pounds in a week. I know that mathematically it is impossible to burn 3500 calories a day, so how and why am I losing weight so fast?? Should I be worried, or enjoy it?

Every time I've had a stall I've broken it by increasing my calories. If you feel healthy, I'd enjoy it! Good luck.

I think that's fantastic and counterintutitive. Let me ask, did you increase your calories and your Protein or just your calories?

Just calories. Protein has stayed the same. Added in avocado as a healthy fat, and a few more carbs.

So much has to do with Fluid shifts, related to glycogen in the muscles, salt intake, etc. Don't be worried if you gain a few next week - just fluid rebalancing. Your overall weight loss seems fine, so keep up the good work!

Good to hear everybody's input on this. I'm 6 months post-op and my weight loss has jolted to a halt!!! I'm doing everything I can to make sure that I'm doing everything according to plan--- Water, Protein, food tracking, and exercise.

Even though I know it's irrational to think that my weight loss is just going to stop completely at this point, I'm totally scared that I won't lose any more weight. Trusting the process and myself, but it's hard!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
