Avoiding dehydration

Recommended Posts

I'm dehydrated, I can tell by my skin. I've been really trying to chug some fluids but I feel like I just cannot get in all the recommended fluids each day. I saw my surgeon last week and he said just to try and get in as much as possible, he wants 60-80oz a day and some days I'm lucky to get 50 so I'm close, just feel like I need more. This whole not eating and drinking 30 minutes before and after and meals to take at least 30 mins to eat I feel like it's impossible to reach that amount of Water unless I'm up 24 hours a day. Also was upped to 60 grams of Protein a day and that's two of the premier shakes. Where the heck am I supposed to fit water in?!

I think the really dry skin and lips and mouth is pretty common in the early days. I had this even when I was getting in all the required Fluid. You have to sip, sip, sip all day long. Like a sip every 5 minutes. Don't try to chug. I know it is challenging, but getting the fluids in is critical for your gut health and also for your weight loss. Personally, I found that a straw in my water bottle helped me control the amount. I could take a tiny, controlled sip easier than drinking straight from the bottle. You can also get fluids by eating Soups and broth. All that counts in your daily total.

I find uncarbonated Hint Water easier to drink than tap water. Wegmans just started making their own version, Wegmans Wonder Water. It's less expensive. It comes in 16 oz. bottles so my goal is to drink 4 a day.

I started drinking milk more often after surgery. I go for the fairlife or horizon milks, depending on what your prefer since it has some Protein in it. I would also suggest the Premier Protein clear waters - they help you be hydrated AND get protein in,

I am still struggling too. I've been trying to be sure that I wake up and drink before I eat, that way I can at least start off my day with something hydrating me.

It gets better!

My Dr made sure I remembered my Protein Drink counted as my liquid for my 60 oz at my 2 week check up. I'm thankful for that since there have been a few days I only met my goal because of my 2 Protein Shakes a day my goal is 60g as well. Maybe talk to your NUT or RD and ask them if they would consider that to be added to your Fluid intake?

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
