Pre-op waiting and not losing weight! Advice Please!

Recommended Posts

I should be getting an official surgery date soon and have really cut back on carbs and upped my Protein intake to prepare. I have also been tracking my food over the last few weeks but the scale is not moving. Feeling frustrated as I know I need to lose at least another 5 lbs before my official pre-op appointment that will most likely occur in a couple weeks. Please help! I don’t know what I am doing wrong and desperately want to see the scale move.

Welcome to the group! I would suggest upping your Water intake. I try to drink a glass every-time I use the bathroom. Also if you can get some walking in, maybe work your way up to 20 minutes a day. Hope this helps!

I drink a pretty large amount of Water but started to add some crystal light sugar free to it lately to help ween me off of diet cokes for good! I will get my butt in gear to add some additional activity and see if I can jump start my loss again. I have so much to lose overall (around 200lbs) that I thought these first lbs would come off quickly. I also started taking a Multi-Vitamin a few days ago but I don’t think that should cause weight loss to stall. Thanks! Stressing myself out because I don’t want to lose my opportunity to get this surgery just because I can’t seem to get this last five lbs off right now. My dr had mentioned you cannot gain weight from your consult to your first pre-op appt and that is exactly were I am sitting right now😕. I was but in a beta blocker that made me gain weight but just switched to a new kind instead to see if it helps with water retention. Thanks again!

Count your calories and nutrients. There are several free websites/apps that you can use to do this. You better get used to them anyways since your medical team will most likely require you to keep track of your meals during the preop time anyways.

The best is probably Myfitnesspal by Under Armour. Very easy to use and a lot of tools for no extra charge. You will see very quickly with this tool why you may be struggling. Don't lie when you journal in the tool either, it won't help anyone.

Walk, walk, walk. I’m was having the same problem and when I upped my walking to 2.5 - 3.5 miles 6 days per week my weight started dropping. Good lock! We’ve got this,👍

I appreciate all the feedback and good juju - exactly what I needed! I will get to walking. I have been tracking my food and have not run into this issue so early when trying to get back on track so I hope that helps! Thanks all!

Libby, my start out weight was 171.8 & since that weight last week, I have came to 166.8 and that's not even from trying before my surgery. That was from Water loss from diarreah. I hope this does not disqualify me for surgery ad a candidate.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
