"New injection mimics gastric bypass"???

Thoughts? Yes, I know the DailyMail is not exactly prime news source... but just for the basic overview. Maybe would be good for those with some weight regain later on post-op or in lieu of revision. I wonder how long the effects last... and clearly it doesn't have the "training benefits" of surgery. I also don't like how DailyMail put dumping syndrome as a disadvantage... I consider that an advantage and is an excellent negative reinforcement tool for those that get it.

I've been reading articles like these since I started my weight loss surgery journey in 2003. Scientist or group discover a pill or injectable that would mimic weight loss surgery. I hope it comes to fruition in my lifetime but I am extremely doubtful that it will happen.

It could be useful for current patients to get back down to their goal weight if they have some slide back, or just to get rid of those last 10 lbs. But then again, if we already have those hormonal changes, would this injection do any good for us.

So I think it's tricky. All hormone systems have a sympathetic and parasympathetic "antidote" to it meaning they don't ever exist unopposed. And they relate to each other and to cells through a negative feedback loop. And if for some reason, have too much of one, then the cell is capable of shutting down all receptor sites for that hormone in order to regulate things. Cuz the body likes homeostasis.

So I would think that it would react like insulin in that the cells would become resistanct to PP1 etc. Which would be very bad cuz it could potentially break our satiety system even more. An example of this is leptin resistance and MO. We have SCADS of leptin in our system. But our receptors are shut down (leptin-resistant) and so we eat and eat and eat and eat and eat. Then our lips fall off. :D

So I think it will be very interesting to watch...

Personally, I am not a fan of pharmaceuticals.

I keep thinking of all the diets and pills I tried/failed in the past. I did phen phen. Lost weight and gained it back plus extra. Is it realistic and sustainable to be dependent on medications long term for weight loss/maintenance?

I wish there was a easy way to stop/cure obesity. We can dream, Right?

Unf. I was on Phentermine for a while and my resting heart rate was 165bpm. Funtimes. All of the other ones I tried made me depressed (Belviq, Qsymia, Contrave, Topomax).

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
